ya know this has been quite stressful for me,many bloodshot eyes, drool dripping look over and it's 1;30 am nights of research
it took me a couple weeks just to find a name before captain obvious kicked in and then all the research into hosting service blah blah blah

but seeing the members here just freely conversing has made it all worth the while

so i am calling it a win,i succeeded in my goal and it makes me happy

hopefully we can get another member or two on the tech maintenance side and i can regress to my natural aesthetic/content creator side

remember,this is your site,thanks gary

  OutdoorFTs Quest

Ill start a thread on my journey to picking out an RV. I have a 2011 F350 crew cab long bed. So I have plenty of choices, but not looking to push the max load since I dont want something obnoxiously large.

Im not really into 5th wheels due to take up good storage (8ft long) and they are normally more expensive anyway.

So Im doing window shopping while Im here, talking with the owners etc. Trying to feel out what I want. Ideally, Id like a single unit so no unhooking, leveling etc. But, Im being open to the options.

you can call me matt, outdoorft, whatever...but dont call me late for dinner  Big Grin

  Propane and refrigeration
Posted by: Cammalu - 09-17-2017, 08:31 AM - Forum: Heating/Air Conditioning - Replies (15)

I was all set to buy a fancy dancy new compression fridge for my rig when money for it went elsewhere and I got stuck using propane on my three way rv absorption fridge.  It's been several months now and I've decided to keep my fridge as the propane use seems to be so tiny as to make almost no difference. I don't have a clue what this fridge is using but I also use propane to cook daily and for the water heater also and it seems I'm using less than a gallon of propane a week.  It seems hardly possible but when I fill up the most the tank has taken was three gallons and that was after an extended period of not buying propane for about a month.

I'm not buying a new fridge!

The bus, or skoolie is a great alternative for those of us who require a little more room than a van has to offer.  There are many different shapes and sizes of bus available as well.
I wanted to start this thread off.  The coffee is brewing.  I will be back to write more after my AM fix.

  What's Up On Top?
Posted by: GotSmart - 09-17-2017, 07:02 AM - Forum: Solar/Electrical Sparky Camp - Replies (21)

It is my opinion that solar power is one of the best eco power sources for a free living person.  There is nothing like freedom from the cord.  Big Grin

Currently only space and money is the great limiter for solar; room for the panels and the batteries, as well for the necessary components and the means to pay for them.

I am a huge proponent of packaged systems from Renogy for a couple reasons.
1)  They stand 100% behind their product.
2)  They will willingly answer all questions on solar.
3)  One stop shopping.
4)  Quality.

in addition, Arizona Wind and Sun sells mixed manufactures systems, and also will give you great service.

I will be posting pictures of installs and describing exactly why things were done in the coming posts and I ask that others do the same.  We all learn from each other.

  Predator Generator
Posted by: Gunny - 09-16-2017, 08:51 PM - Forum: Generators - Gas , Diesel , Solar , Wind , Water - Replies (13)

I've been researching (gawd I'm bored) generators and came across reviews of the Predator 4000/3500 generator. $699.00 or maybe $649.00 with their coupon.

I went to take a look last weekend and they had one set up next to a Honda 2000. At 20 ft the Predator was 4 decibels quieter than the 2000 on eco mode and 6 at load. It was enough to convince me. They do recommend an oil change at 8 hours for the first one, it's a Honda clone but there will be shavings as it breaks in. Decent warranty and extended service available. When the Eagle flies the 1st I will have one.

I just got clued into where the cool kids and rebels have gone.
Nice to see some familiar names.

I'm 14 months solo in my truck and travel trailer.
2008 Ford F250 and a 2016 Springdale 30 foot travel trailer. I thought size was important and I bought a rig that is a bit bigger than I need, but she is mine and works well enough (except in tight corners, then she is a bitch). I've put her in a ditch twice, dealt with a flat tire, jacknifed once, broke the tongue jack twice and ripped the rubber roof. Yet she still rolls and is a fine home for me and my two tiny dogs. Life as a Nomad is good, even better than I thought it would be.

So hello to all!
