Whenever I click on a thread I've already started reading, it takes me right to the first post, rather than to the newest unread post.
I can't find anyplace in the User CP to establish my Sig line.
Is it just me, or are there features you haven't activated yet?

| Cooking in a thermas |

This ain't no recipe. It is another stupid question.
Has anybody successfully tried cooking stuff in a thermas?
I tried. The rice took a couple hours, was gooey and gritty. Almost like stove cooked...
The brown rice took 24 hours and was only a little gritty.
The boiled eggs were still soft after an hour. Yokes cooked, whites runny...
It is a little Thermos brand jar. I might give the rice another shot but I might boil the rice a few seconds before shoving it in the thermas. That kind of defeats the idea of only having to clean out the thermos.... instant rice?

Ok my first stupid question. We got some of the shiny bubble wrap stuff. We cut it out and fitted it into the van windows. We had to add some magnets with you guessed it duck tape. Well, after a few days in the sun, the magnets and duck tape parted company. The shiny stuff also reflects light off the parking lot lights at the Walmart no matter what. Then it is obvious from any distance that there is something weird about that van, not that there aren't other weird things about that van.... Ssssooooo I covered a couple covers with some nylon fabric. It looks ok inside and out. Magnets are secure. My stupid question is this....
Does reflextics work ok next to a window if the shiny stuff has been covered in fabric or does it need to shine all over the Walmart parking lot to stay cold/warm in there? Opinions please. I can't tell, seems hot as ever. No didn't cover the front yet.

I'm was fairly new to the other board. Cammalu invited me here. I don't know what awful stuff was happening but I bailed off a forum for petty stupid moderators harassing all the time a couple years ago. I think the last straw for me on that one was when I wrote two words IN ALL caps and got hosed for yelling. I was fairly prominent on that board and was very relieved when a bunch of us started a new board. It's been a couple years and no major problems. It has been a success, the old board is not much anymore.
I am not a full timer yet. We have overnight parked in parking lots over the last nearly 20 years. I absolutely hate hotels. For now, I take care of my 90's year old parents. Searching how to live in our 88 Chevy van has been keeping me sane. I plan to leave after the last box is in the hole. My sisters can sort it all out. My son can have power of attorney and look after my best interests.
I have lots of questions so I may just open up new topic and let all you experts help me out.

Hi Everyone!,
First a big thanks to Gary!, and a big thanks to Cammalu for inviting me over. I've been saying for a year that there's a huge void on the web and a good van dwelling forum is needed. I think a lot share the same sentiments about the other forums related to the subject so no use in beating that into the ground.
For anyone that doesn't know me, My name is Matt, i'll be 37 in about 26 more hours. I grew up camping and all the family vacations were done by vehicle. My Dad ran his own floor covering business and he always had a cargo van for work. We'd clean it out every summer and then pack it up and the family would go camping for a few weeks. Somewhere in my early teens, I remember looking at the empty van after we unpacked all the gear and set up our tents and said, why am I sleeping in this small tent when that big empty van is right there. Ever since that summer, I started using the van as my tent and thus my love of vans and traveling was born.
Fast forward 15 years when my Dad passed away and I inherited his 03 Chevy Express. I cleaned it out top to bottom and outfitted it with my camping gear, cooler, cot, sleeping bag, camp tables/chairs, stove, etc and I hit the road. I went to about 40 of the 50 states in that van over the next few years. It eventually got side swiped and the insurance company totaled it. It was still perfectly usable, so I sold it as is and my next cross country trip would be done in a 2 door Wrangler with my backpacking gear. I went cross country in the Jeep twice before selling it, along with at least a few dozen smaller excursions, in and around New England. I've toured several times by motorcyle and currently using my Silverado Pick Up. I have a camper trailer, but it's almost 30', much too big for just myself. So this year i'm trying to plan out my next adventure rig, leaning towards another Chevy Express, it really seems to be the best all purpose rig.
Look forward to watching this new forum grow and will contribute as much as I can.
Hope to meet some of you out on the road
Matt

I've been posting less and less on you-know-where, trying to decide if I even wanted to bother with it anymore. Too many people I like gone, too many new people, a couple of whom I would classify as jerks. Really, really annoying jerks.
I was ecstatic when Cammie sent me the pm telling me about this place.

Hi,
I was "LeeRevell" on 'the other place', before jumping ship due to...... reasons. This forum seems to be off to a good start.
The new name is one I use on several other forums, based on my old Navy days.
Still feeling my way through this Brave New World.

I totally dig the forest theme and green colors. Truly. However, up at the top between where it says User CP and the list of forums, or between the top and the post if a post is showing, there's a bit of a problem.
Basically we've got green text on a dark green background or something like that, and the active forum hierarchy isn't readable or legible or whatever -able applies. You might be able to change the text color of just that area without changing anything else. Wouldn't that be nice.
Plus, if there's a place to get back from reading any thread to the main page, I haven't found it yet. Maybe it's hiding in that terrific Green Forest. ;-)

This is Vagabound / Tom. Same guy as over on CRVL. Surly box-truck-dwelling curmudgeon with a cynical sense of humor almost as bad as the founder of this forum. ;-)
