Anyone travel with a folding bike?
#1
Hey fellow travelers,

I’ve been on the road for a while now and thinking about picking up a folding bike to make short rides from the campground a little easier — like going to the park office, exploring nearby trails, or grabbing a few groceries without having to break camp or unhook the tow vehicle.

I used to ride mountain bikes a lot and have tried eBikes too, but a folding bike seems like the right mix of compact, lightweight, and convenient — especially when storage is tight.

A few things I’m wondering:
  • What folding bike models do you recommend for RV life?
  • Do they hold up well on gravel or uneven campground roads?
  • Is it worth going electric for a folding bike, or stick with pedal power?

Would love to hear how other RVers use bikes on the road. Bonus if you’ve got photos of how you store it in your rig or tow vehicle!

Welcome aboard the forums momohe ! It's good to see your first post .

I've lived on wheels for a very long time , always managed to have a bike stuck somewhere in the rig and even a summer with the bike being the rig. I still have my old 10 speed hanging on a hook upside down from a frame I made under the ceiling with 2x2s with the front fork attached to the rear wall with a walnut block that has a quick release skewer through it. The wheels are next to it on another hook.

I got an folding e-bike last spring and although there are a few folders that are pretty light , most are not . (Mine is around 75# with the saddlebags empty) I got a small chain hoist to do the lift up to floor level and it rides in the only space left it will fit into 2' from the door.
stay tuned

I have a folding Lectric e-bike, but it's heavy (to me). It's 66 pounds if I remember correctly. I'm undecided how I will travel with or if I will travel with it.

I struggle with the weight of mine, so it would be nice if I could find a lighter weight bike (regular or e-bike). To be determined at a later date!
