For the last week I have had a craving for good, old fashioned meat loaf and all the assorted trimmings.
Today on the way home after a lengthy visit to the VA , I stopped at a place called Cotten Patch Cafe that someone had recommended to satisfy that silly craving. Funny how things just stick in my mind, envisioning a leisurely meal and just relaxing.
It was about 1530 so no too many people in the place and I got a good table and was promptly greeted. Ordered my Coke, told the server I knew what I wanted and ordered the meatloaf. The Dr had told me to eat greens because my blood was so thin so I could have a salad, one of the forbidden foods while on warfarin. Extra ranch. Life was good.
In about two minutes my Coke and salad are brought out, service was good so far. As I am pouring the dressing on my salad my meatloaf appears. About two minutes between getting salad and entree. I ask the server if he can put my food under the heat lamp until I finish my salad. He takes the meatloaf away.
In five minutes he’s back with the meatloaf and I am still munching my salad. So while I eat my salad my food is cooling off nicely. After eating half of my salad I started on the main course. Meatloaf had sat awhile, one side was ‘off’ color but I ate part of it and the warm mashed potatoes and broccoli and cheese.
I ask for my check. I had spent maybe 20 minutes on my ‘relaxing ‘ meal and was a bit bothered. I paid, gave a 5 dollar tip on a 15 dollar tab. After I had signed and paid I asked the server to send his manager over. He asked if something was wrong but I just asked him to send the manager over.
The manager was a very pleasant woman and asked what I needed. I told I stopped to have a relaxing meal after spending the day being poked and prodded at the VA and my meal there was in no way relaxing. Rushed from start to finish and there were no other customers in my servers section. She offered to comp my meal and I told her she missed the point.
My meal had already been paid for, waiter was tipped and I wanted nothing for free. What I did want was not to be rushed, I wanted to be served fresh food and time enough to eat my damn meal and finish my Coke.
I did get rid of that craving though.

Gunny if I have a salad with my meal I always ask for it ahead of my food. Doesn't do a damn bit of good either!
