RAV4 Camping?
#41
I don't remember enough to visualize the Rav, but is getting a mattress size piece of foam to go on top of what you have an option? Might be easier to do temporarily. I tend to sleep on two different types of mattresses any place I put together.

As far as inside the RAV, I had thought about adding an air mattress (camping type) under the foam topper.

Reverse the order.
Foam on top of an air mattress tends to tear out.
Yes , learned the hard way

And it may be cooler to sleep on in the warm weather… (as someone who sleeps warm in Any weather.. lol)
Another question is Why does it bother your shoulder? Not enough padding? Wrong sleeping position? Are you hunching due to perceived low head clearance? Different pillow/s? Some combination of these??

yes Kyz I think it is more about your pinched nerve issue then a bedding issue that could be fine for ya later when ya heal up and get better.

roof top tent? I think one thing one wants is inside the vehicle right? I think my position on this for me personally would be I want in the vehicle not on top LOL Interesting to think that way.

Is it a room issue with the sleep and position of shoulder maybe? Do you need to widen your sleep area a bit and take some space from just a 'single type' narrow bed to a wider one to be more comfy?

yea thoughts on what might improve it all will have to be worked out by ya Smile Glad you did tho enjoy the other use of your car for your trip!! working out the bugs.

Great ya got a month on your rental also!!

I think I had a pinched nerve for about a week. At least, it started in my neck and moved down my shoulder to the elbow. I looked it up on Dr. Google and found it could be that, tried some stretches recommended, etc. It started getting better but it's been a slow process. Honestly, I can lay on it on a mattress and it flares up. This just seemed worse because there was less padding. Also my hips seemed to hurt but that went away pretty quickly the next day. My shoulder hurts when I use my arm. When I drive, when I type even, it's weird. Motrin is my "bedtime candy" lately.

Adding, not having to hunch when I sit up so headspace is good.

Also a side sleeper. I try to avoid that side, but I turn over in the night.

I'm in the rental tonight! It's small but nice. VERY back in the woods. Going to get some pictures tomorrow morning and walk some trails.

The roof top tent is probaby out of the question anyway. Looks like I'd have to upgrade my roof rack system first so I'd be looking at AT LEAST 3k and that's a bit more than I want to spend.

Yes, I'll definitely be tweeking the inside setup. But I may research the RTT a bit more just out of curiosity. On top of the RAV seems safe enough to me....maybe...as long as there aren't any curious critters.

I kept adding foam till I stopped bottoming out with my hip ! It was better after that.
Try stretching your arm out in different directions as you sleep maybe one will be the ticket, different pillows might help too.
After too many years backpack and bike camping on a 3/8" piece of 3/4 length foam I gladly went from hotel/ motel beds to an air mattress in the truck , Then after waking up sleeping on plywood and a deflated mattress too many times over 15 years , I started experimenting with foam in the class A..
Now I'm happy with a total 9" of memory foam . And a little neck pillow It only took me 20 years to get there !
I get that "vulcan neck pinch" shoulder now but just in winter though , might be from shoveling , maybe just the endless cold ?
stay tuned
