Close, I was In the Royal Navy for many years and the term makenmend came from the old time of wooden ships, when a ''make and mend'' was given to a ships crew so they could make or repair their personal items ie clothing and equipment.
So sewing was indeed part of that.
the present day meaning of makenmend in the Navy means a free afternoon to go ashore or if at sea just relax and rest from duties.

I found this site from CRVL, always hope to learn more and help if I can.

Yes mam, naturalized USA citizen now, been here since June 1986, left England in january 1962 to join  my 1st ship based in Malta.
after the Navy went back to the UK (Scotland)worked there and all around England, Wales, Ireland. Applied to immigrate to the US 1979, while waiting for that to happen worked in Bermuda, then the Cayman Islands until June 1986 when my immigration came to fruition.
Been here most of the time, I did go back to the Cayman's in 2007 when I retired, had a small wine and beer making business that went down the tubes in 2010, after the recession caught up with Cayman, when I returned to the States.

Did quite a bit backpacking camping and kayak camping until I went back to visit my folks in England and my Sister/BIL turned me on to camper vans. got my van 2016 and have enjoyed doing the conversion and spending time traveling the Western USA and points in between, Until Covid.

Be glad to get Mobile again.

Welcome from a colonies resident. Now a expat Russian troll, lol, but it’s a welcoming group. They’re even kinder if you’re not right in some way.

So anyway welcome from colourful Siberia. I am here all week then back to balmy SPB.
