The Detour Thread
#11
One of the outfits I drove for had a terminal in Lancaster. You get to know the ins and outs of large cities eventually. I didn't mind DFW other than rush hour. The weather can be a wooly booger down there from time to time. I was across the interstate at the TA when this happened. Got rained down on with shingles.

Got caught in that huge ice storm that shut down most of Texas several years back. Found a parking spot at the Pilot in Haslett Tx and ended up there for about 3 days. I-35W was completely shut down and I heard that all the other interstates were shut down too. Fun stuff. Got caught in a freak snowstorm wayyyy down in McAllen Texas once too. The locals had never seen snow before and it was cute watching the kids go nuts in it. That city shut down completely too.

"You can't get there from here. "

I encountered that in West Virginia, fortunately just as an observation, not something blocking my travel, as we were just cruising around exploring. The road I was on goes up to the edge of the South Fork Potomac River. Across the small river, there is the road continuing on. Anywhere on the other side of river, "you can't get there from here".

[It maybe that the locals would drive pickups through the river. I didn't check the depth. There weren't any signs or barriers to crossing.]

I realized the part that is left unsaid,"you'll have go to [somewhere else] to get there".
