Well you won’t detour around Denver unless you pay a toll. Otherwise it’s straight through the downtown going N or S on I-25, or possibly swing a bit East of Denver (Aurora) by taking I-225, which is not a complete detour.  Be very careful of the toll roads to the West and far East, they are expensive!

For years we have avoided Chicago on our trips to Wisconsin to visit family--we take I-74 west, then go up I-39 through Rockford and into south-central WI.

Just this last Saturday we took a detour around Nashville, TN--we were coming from Winchester, TN, NW of Huntsville, AL. We got on I-24, but at Murfreesboro we hopped off on US 231, took it north a ways, then cut over and got back on I-65 about 5 miles south of the KY line. Some of the detour was 4-lane road, some only 2 lane. Speed limits slower, but traffic was very light, which Nashville almost never is--the only time we had an easy run through there was at 2 am once.

Avoid Pittsburg like the plague. Atlanta. It might be seventy five miles out of the way but bypass it through Alabama if you can avoid Nashville.... avoid Indianapolis during the last part of April and all of May. EVERYBODY is qualifying.
I'm not lost. I'm exploring.

I take the Briley Parkway around Nashville on the top side or I-440 if I'm going around the bottom side. Now you can go I-840 around the bottom side if you are going east or west on I-40 and miss it all together. Pittsburgh can be a nightmare downtown at rush hour. The pan handlers stand along side the interstate going thru begging for money. Only time I had problems in Atlanta was when they had that major road repair going. They've upped the speed limit to 65 on the circle freeway and there was talk about building another outer circle freeway outside of I-285. Chicago... tolls tolls tolls. DFW used to be gawd awful terrible because of all the road construction. Hope they got it all fixed. Never had any issues around Houston. Austin sucks... period!!! Stay away from Talladega on race day. That frikkin race track is right along I-20 and the locals just park on the shoulder for miles. They used to park on the shoulders in KC for the football and baseball games but the po-po finally cracked down and started towing cars.

It does if you have to go.
But my point is "Do you have to ? " Huh

EX:
I've been through DFW fairly easy some times.
Knowing which off ramp is the right one can be a story all by itself... Confused
But not since finding the Corsicana route. Cool Big Grin
You still have to look out for idiots but a LOT less. Wink

Two rights don’t make a wrong, but three lefts do make a right. Except in downtown San Francisco.
