Stop bugging me!
#31
I go those cheap screens they advertise on TV-they hang like curtains and have magnets that click together to close them. Sewed 3 panels together together to make it big enough to cover the side doors of the van. Snik, I got those HArbor freight magnets too, and after screwing around with them decided to just leave them loose, and hang the thing with as many as needed. The thing hangs pretty tight. Not quite finished, but will post a pic when done. Headed up to Moosehead lake and the woods around there, then over toward the coast down east in 10 days. Mosquitoes big enough to screw turkeys, and moose flies that'll take a sizeable chunk out of you. Seriously. The van came with screens for the front windows that fit into the door and you wind up the window to tighten them in!

I had a set of these in the big truck for those days when it was cool enough not to use the AC. I can't find them for smaller vehicles but I'll bet they wouldn't be too difficult to make using luan plywood.

The HF magnets hold tight enough but I sewed them into the fabric. The fabric does not lay flat with the magnets. The fabric has to hold flat against an inward curve that defies gravity unless the screen goes outside the van. So you are right it needs maybe a combo of something to hold it. I’m wondering how well snaps would hold up if they are taken down and up with any frequency. HF also sells/sometimes gives away tool holder magnets. Ought to be a way...

We have one of the screen doors bought cheap from Menards... They aren’t wide enough to do the double doors and they are long. They supposedly hold on one side with Velcro (and a little help from some screws... ) on the house. The van would be another story. I have toyed with the idea of a tent type zipper to access in and out of the van, strapping tape trim around the screen and lots of HF magnets. Bug repellent anybody?
I'm not lost. I'm exploring.

Those are the screens I have. Sewed 3 panels together. The velcro they use, and worse, the adhesive is terrible. When my doors are open, there's good, flat surface for magnets. so I just figure I'll put them where needed when I hang the screen up. Can't really leave it up and close the doors.

About what I figured for the doors. Too bad it isn’t long enough to cut in half and fit it. Our house door is short... I think already cut. I should just buy a new one for the van.

I pick 'em up at the end of the season, on sale, because I use them on a couple of doors, and constant exposure to sun makes them unhappy. Not the screen part, but the edging. But you probly know that, if you have one on the house. Tongue

Damn adhesive backed stuff just doesn't work. Used the velcro for my reflectix, and no matter what I did, it just would. not. stick.

Trial and lots of error, for reflextic we used t-Rex made by gorilla tape. It mostly worked.

Since I got home, I got some of that polyisowhatchacallit and fitted it to the big back window and the windows on the driver's side. Cut to fit good and tight, and stuck it in with Gorilla tape, which actually seems to be holding! Still going with reflectix on the other windows, but still need to figure out how to get it to stay overnight. Making a heavy curtain for the back half for when it's cold (Harbor freight moving blanket) so may not worry too much about the front. By the time the coffee's made in the morning, things are pretty warm, and there's always Mr. Buddy.
