The pinpointer is minelabs brand, came with the vanquisher as a set. "pro-find 15" I had already found it somewhat useful yesterday finding the "junk"
I've played with the pinpoint button on the 440. I'm still learning things about it.
I've found: part of a foil pan or container, what looked to be a small part of a tin can, a small round-ish piece of metal (iron?) oddly shaped/twisted, and my big find of the day today....an old nail.
Me and oldest grandson are going "finding" tomorrow to see what we can find. He's going to use my dad's metal detector. He's 14...raring to go. He's my adventure buddy on the 10 acres usually.

Headphones came with my set. I'll use them later when I'm possibly around people or noisy areas.
Update? I'll look. I never thought about those sort of things needing an update.

The 15 is a sweet bonus SWAG !
Try to remember the ID# and sound as you find each item . Learning your machine will really help you to dig less junk and find more treasarrrrrr !
Sounds priceless time with your 14 yo GS .
Hope he finds something special.

So far just old junk, but interesting none the less. Nothing of value. The worst so far was digging 6 to 7 inches in hard soil for a wad of old tin foil.
My grandson got tired of it pretty quick. But he was also getting a bad allergy attack (unknown if it's because of the woods or the new stray cat he plays with).
I'll take pictures of some of the finds eventually. I'm keeping anything old and interesting for now.

Some gold rings have the same ID# as that tin foil. Why I said to leave the discrimination off (horseshoe button engaged, all the segments lit up .) and dig it all . You'll learn more about what the detector is telling you with each find.
And don't forget to reset the noise cancel by turning off/on when the tones get chattery ..
Cleaning out the junk also eliminates them "masking" a better item close by.
You can plant a choice find for him to "discover" , gold would produce the maximum effect LOL
You'll really appreciate having a good digger on those hunts ........
stay tuned

We will see if he gets interested again. He's had a pretty bad allergic reaction this weekend since going out with me. We think it's more the stray cat, but he is getting tested later this month (finally).
I don't mind the junk. An old nail is still old. My dad keeps telling me about where things were way back before. So weird to think this area had a hospital even! I know the "house" building that was the bank. Someone actually still lives in the house. Oh, and my parents still own an old store building (been closed for years/run down). I'm going to metal detect around it before they sell it later this year.
I told my grandson about a video I watched...a guy went to a playground and found around $2 in change. He thought that was brilliant...lol

Another Vanquish vid .
The star with ACF on it was an Brit Army Cadet Force pin from 1941. My quick research while watching....
(Kinda like ROTC in high school )
(Interesting Aussie Comfort Fund ID on the vid.)
Relics provide a chance to do research to find out what it is.....

Just saw this article...
https://www.kalb.com/2023/06/07/uncoveri...6hB9MCJQ1U
TL;DR: Hurricane Laura uprooted some trees and artifacts were found, possibly dating back to the ice age.
There are at least 2 big trees uprooted on the 10 acres. New spots to metal detect and explore.
