  Where for the summer?
Posted by: RoamingKat - 07-24-2021, 08:35 AM - Forum: Useful Information - Replies (3)

It looks a lot like this will be my last summer in GJ.

I know a lot of people like to keep their summer places to themselves.    I get the desire to not have large crowds showing up where you like to go.

Still, after 4 years on the road….it looks like I will have to truely go full time this coming season.
Any suggestions?

I expect fires and drought are going to be a hard hit on remaining nomad in the SW for the long term…  anyone have suggestions for the rest of the country?      I think that high occupancy rates at all RV Parks will mean I will need to exclude them from possibility….

Ideas?

  Tip: No Pan Lids
Posted by: ALEXB - 07-22-2021, 04:23 PM - Forum: Useful Information - Replies (9)

Tip:  Get Rid of all your cooking pan LIDS... Instead, Pack an Extra Frying Pan (bigger than any others you may have), and use It as the (1)One Lid for any/all pots, pans.

This can save a lot of space, especially if you normally carry several pans; you also end up with an Extra Pan (in place of all the lids), to use for cooking

  TIP: Blower/Fan from HF
Posted by: ALEXB - 07-21-2021, 09:03 AM - Forum: Useful Information - Replies (2)

If you have 110v Power in your rig, then I'd highly suggest using the following type of Blower.
I've found that it works Better than AC in a high humidity climate like FL; Keeps you Dry (when used with Venilation Opening at both ends your vehicle, for airflow).

Also nice is that you can easily "Aim" it, and the airflow is quite "directed/concentrated"... much more-so than the typical radial fan designs.

For sake of comparision, I used to use 3ea 12v "Muffin Fans", where-as in comparision this Blower is pushes ~10x more air than all three those combined... and decently quiet too (with Adjustable Speed).

https://www.harborfreight.com/3-speed-po...61729.html

ps: I'm sure that if you were so inclined, the 110v motor could be replaced by a 12v version, and still work pretty good; offhand I'd try to swap in a motor from a 12v RV Heater for that effort

  Black Out Curtains, for Light/Heat
Posted by: ALEXB - 07-20-2021, 07:36 PM - Forum: Useful Information - Replies (1)

Couple years back I made "Black Out Curtains" to cover all the windows on my RV, for a trip to Alaska... which is quite helpful, as it is "Daylight" almost all day in AK, hence you cannot easily sleep. They are made of a Heavy Cloth Fabric (typically used for bench seats), and a Opaque/Heavy Black Backing, sewed together; and mounted on Nylon Tracks to wall.

Anyhow, I've come to appreciate how well these curtains also function to Keep Out Heat, especially in the daytime here in Florida... they make a Remarkable Difference, and when combinded with a 110V Squirrel Cage Fan (Harbor Freight) and a Opening at each end of your rig, amounts to a Darn Comfortable Daytime Environment! (even with High Humidity).

Tip: Keeping Freezer Cold by FILLING-IT
Posted by: ALEXB - 07-20-2021, 10:40 AM - Forum: Useful Information - Replies (11)

I've learned to use "Frozen Bread Dough", in place of "(Blue)Freezer Ice), to keep my RV Freezer Cold.
Basicially, I Fill All Otherwise Empty Space in the freezer with Dough... which acts the same as would the more typical "Ice" most folks use, but with the added advantage that it's "Usable"... eg You can eat it.

The goal being, to Keep the Freezer 100% Full, so as to Minimize Air Space...  Results in the freezer "Recovering Faster" (eg Returning to Cold) after the door is open, becuase there is Less Loss of Cold Air that would then need to be replenished.

I make my own dough, either before I depart on a trip, or (if on the road) just set aside a couple hours to make a batch of ~6 Zip Lock Bags Worth; Super Easy and with the win-win of gaining a Colder Freezer/Fridge, and a Great Food Source   :-)

Similarly, rather than dough, you can Fill the Freezer with Pre-Made Meals; I use "Brick Sized" aluminum pans that stack efficently... In the pic shown here, this is actually ~60-days(!) worth of meals for 1-person!!!  (eg Each brick is 2-3 servings)

  Hello All
Posted by: ALEXB - 07-20-2021, 09:29 AM - Forum: Welcome Center - Replies (7)

Hello All,
Just relocated from CA to FL(Jacksonville, FL) for new job, and am living in RV (Truck/Camper) for first time.
This is a big lifestyle change for me, and has been years-in-the-making largly in terms "downsizing" of my stuff.

Am a longtime Traveler and Camper type person, hence I believe that this lifestyle fits me well.
So far, my dog Maxx also Approves of the change, hence that is certainly a Plus.

Would enjoy meeting online or in-person other RV Dwellers, even if only to "Text" in the form of being a Pen Pal.
Isolation is my biggest fear in this endeavor.

Cheers,
Alex
