I posted a thread the Builds section to fill out some things my wife said about what we had to do with our van, and Optimistic Paranoid asked that I expand it and put it over here.  I've had trouble finding time to write, but I have been doing some thinking about it since then.

Maybe the best place to start this section is to consider the question, "Why would any of the rest of us need to worry about this?"  If you aren't chemically sensitive, why should you worry about it?  And I'm afraid the answer to that is, you never know when it will hit you until it's too late.  It may not be something that builds up gradually but gives lots of warning; it can hit suddenly without warning, and it it does hit you it may affect you for the rest of your life.  So in the next few posts I put on this thread I will lay out some of what happened to us, what we learned about it, and some of what we have learned to do.

I have also invited Heidi Mull to chip in on this topic as we go.  She also is chemically sensitive, but may have found other helpful things that will contribute.

Hello, my name is Jim. I've been nosing around here for much of the afternoon and really like the vibe here.

I didn't get an invite from anyone as I hardly know anyone so I'm asking permission to come aboard.

I travel and live out of a '98 GMC K1500 with a camper shell, pretty bare bones but working out nicely. Riding shotgun is an unkempt labradoodle named Zero.

The reason I don't know anyone is pretty simple, I choose sites based on how many other campers aren't there. I tried camping with someone else for a few weeks and decided it wasn't really for me.

I am however interested in meeting others along the way that I could intersect with and spend a day or 3 with and move on. That's more my cup of tea.

I recognize a lot of handles here from C--L where I infrequently posted. Like I said, I like the vibe here as opposed to there.

I'm retired from the Navy and have been to more countries than I have states. Fixin to balance the scales in coming years.

So if you'll have me, I'd be honored.

It's fairly well known in the RV full timer community that if you have a prescription on file with any of the large pharmacy chains, principally CVS, Walgreens, and Walmart Pharmacies, you can pickup refills wherever you happen to be.

Finally, Bob over in Cheap RV Living has blogged about crossing the border to Algadones Mexico to get less expensive dental work, eyeglasses, and medication.  Apparently no prescription is needed in Mexico for many of these drugs, and it is legal to bring them back across the US border if you have no more than a 90 day supply, and they are for your own, personal use.

I’m glad to see the owner and mods building the various subforums so that if I have a specific question or need for information, I can look up Electricals, Mechanicals, Insulation, Heat and Cooling, Cooking, all those that the “other” forum had.

I’d like there to be stickies that are general enough so as to allow for differences in opinion (like basics on solar power for a vehicle as opposed to “you must have a MPPT controller and 600 watts of monocrystaline panels” type statements.  Those are for back and forth “jousting” in threads...

Anyway, hopefully our members will adopt a section and post up for consideration some stickie type information that the mods can decide if they like it enough to make it a stickie. If so this would save newbies search angst and save members from typing out or pasting the same replies over and over and over again...  sorry but I am not a sniveling snowflake who is too lazy to read a forum thread or search before posting my plaintive dumb ass question!  

I was taken to task but the other forum owner himself when I had the gall to suggest to the 10th stupid and nitro question n a row that the OP should take an hour to read up first... I was told that some posters are in such a delicate state that it is all they can do to type out 2 words, “help me” and we should tenderly hold their wittle hand during this crisis... (yeah right, somehow I forgot to do that in Army Basic Training in 1973 with my drill sgts...  waaaa, poor little snowflake!)  

I'm no expert but I do use my 2011 Prius gen 3 as a camper. There are several YT videos about making a Prius a camper and I am not going to try and upstage or restate them, however if you have a Prius specific question I will try to answer it.

I'm a minimalist as far as power needs so don't expect "how do you wire up 120 volt appliances to your traction battery" to get an answer.

Another emigrant from the "other" forum; hopefully I can manage to start and interact in discussions without causing undue drama.  I think my biggest obstacle is; I think others are reasonable adults capable of making their own decisions about if or when something is of interest to them without someone holding their hand to guide them, through thread/post deletions and closings, away from anything controversial. Looking forward to the future!!!

Part time dweller in a 2011 Prius. 

Financial problems have kept me working (I'm 62) a full time (but temporary) job that lasts about 9 months a year, then I travel in my Prius gen 3 hatchback the remainder of the time. I'm never in it more than 2 weeks at a time and pick my battles as far as climate, so have not invested yet in the typical deep cycle FLA batteries, rooftop solar, solenoid from alternator recharging, compressor refridg, etc.  

I am aware of all that and hoping to get either a sunroof equipped minivan or a conversion mid-top van, when the time finally arrives. Till then I read, post sometimes and wait.

I already recognize user names from the "other" forum, so will post and reply some with you all.
