Opinions Please
#11
True, I don't really want a slide. What I want is a solid Ford Transit, LWB, medium or high roof that is reasonably priced. But I haven't found it. I've become so "wishy washy" lately trying to decide "what's next" I've looked at all vans, minivans, considered a suburban, the RAV4 as a camping vehicle, Class Bs and Cs, and have even been looking at houses the last couple of days.

I guess the crux of my question is, am I being unreasonable when I look at prices and balk at them (given the times/state of the world) or should I keep searching for or waiting for the right priced vehicle (meaning, it's listed for approximately what it's worth). The last vehicle I purchased was 13+ years ago. I was able to negotiate with the salesman for what I felt like was a fair price. There is no dealing these days. They set a price and stick with it from what I have experienced the last 2 months.

Remember: I am currently "living" in my parents back room for just over 2 months. I love them; they enjoy me being here in the house; but I'm going a LOT stir crazy.

Another note: I'm just looking for opinions, not someone to tell me what to do...  Smile

I did. I'm not really looking at new RVs, but rather older ones that could be modified. And for the vans, not looking for one already built out. But I've AGAIN changed directions! lol I know I'm all over the place, but so be it.

I'm turning the RAV4 into a camping vehicle for short trips. And I'm going back to the van search. If it takes a year, so be it I guess. Ideally I'm looking for about a 2018-2019 medium or high roof, 250, 148WB. I am talking with a salesperson in Livingston who is supposed to be searching for me and sending me links to possibilities. It would be most convenient to just pick it up there (not have to drive further) since I'm keeping the RAV at least until the van buildout is complete.

Cool. Nice thing is while you are in a hurry to buy what you want, you really are not in a hurry to spend on something you don't want Smile It is nice you are doing the RAV4 to make it work for you while ya keep searching. Never fear, something perfect will fall into your lap, you know, that day ya least expect it Smile

Chrome, YouTube channel VanCity VanLife, just dropped a video where his mechanic friend did a through van check on one Chrome just bought. It might give you some ideas of what to look for. I didn't watch the entire thing as he tends to move too slowly in his video for me unless it is something I'm interested in.

Change the playback speed to 1.5X or 2X to compensate. Slow it down on the interesting bits.

For those that are data challenged ::

The big clue was look under the front floor insulation at bare floor , as well as use a magnet as you inspect all the" usual suspect" locations for possible rust out .
The van he's in now had massive rust out .
His mechanic buddy checked and talked about the diesel engine and some other things.

Worth watching for anybody looking to buy ...any vehicle really.
stay tuned

Big fan of my homie Chrome. He’s actually from Abbotsford not Vancouver. Just like me. Lol.

Been watching him before blah blah as he is pretty real. But this is a good example of truth and truths.

His mech friend goes over the car checks the codes and oks the diesel. Comments that it’s all good and while he may get flak from the haters blah blah blah. The 6.0 liter diesel is good. That’s his truth and while I could drink a beer and talk the differences in fuel pump tech between a cpsk and a this or that and perhaps agree with him on points the FACT is that Diesels are harder to find skilled tech. The good ones usually work on the big boy diesels. A pump and injector set could cost you 7 to 12 thousand dollars installed. Depending on where ya break. While the 6.0 liter ford can be made bulletproof, and when deleted as we can do that in Canada, be very reliable and go half a million miles. I know two guys that own such creatures. I wouldn’t buy and license one in California at any price. The rest of the states…depends on what your legislation is. A good ol boy in Georgia made a ton of money making these engines perfect but the emission cans still clog and pressure the engine such it makes them sub 300,000 mile engines.

So truths. Tell me how a helicopter flies. Most of us could do a good truthful job for a eight year old. Perhaps even a teenager? But what about an aircraft engineer? Truth has levels.

Apparently fuel differences between Canada and the USA muddy these diesel truth waters even more. I personally think that is bullshit, but have had the truth argued to me…Canadians usually drive farther in diesels so start and short trip issues are different. Whole different bag of budgies.

It’s wet here. Van is 100 miles from an actual Rainforest. So rust is a real issue.

Truth truths and faith. I don’t believe any of it.
