I need a hand mounting panels and running wire.
Just 1,000 watt power for the barn plugs.
Compared to parenting, Cat herding is less complicated

I wish I could help as I love electricity, electronics & the like. The owner of the lumber co I worked had a Northern LP genset out in the back of a small garage at his camp in the west U.P. about 60 miles south of mine. You had to push a button on the diafram ro prime it thenhit another button for the starter. I used a old ford style solinoid they used to mount on the firewall & a NC 12v actuator for the gas for the 1st start of the day so they could do it from all inside, they thought I was a wizard. They were right by the tracks across from a siding where they loaded pulp wood. 1st time we stayed there you know how quiet the northwood are, we were all sound asleep & the train went thru & the dishes were shaking sounded like the end of the world. A friend owned 80 acres when it was $40-50 per acre & made a rail road hand type car which he peddled to hunt dear as you always see the close to the tracks but the gause was different there than downstate. I was always going to make one adjustable using 2 batteries & an elect motor as once she's rolling it doesn't take much to keep iit rolling & take it around the country & ride rails no longer used. Now I'd add 200 watts of solar panels. My very own train car, trow on a small tent, bag, stove & I'd be all set.

Will sure has been interesting to watch lately with the battery tear downs and such. It is good to see him put his equipment to practical use even if it is not a practical demonstration to your average mobile dweller. (there is a dweller in Quartzsite yearly that recharges his electric car with close to 5000 watts on a car hauler)
With as many people as there are showing the bits and pieces of solar (with links to be clicked of course), I think that how to use the power, what can be done or what will run off of it is the next step of educational videos needed on YouTube. One of the most inspirational videos for me when I was getting started in solar was from Gone with the Wynns showing how they used their solar power all day long.

Thanks and I hope that you are right. I can't say that I am responsible for the change but there were no examples of people running A/C off of solar when I started 8 years ago and now there are many.
What most do not realize is that aside from running two A/C's at once, everything I do was meant to happen with just the 750 watts on my trailer. I worry that they only see the full 1185 watts and feel as I do when I see Will's spread of 10,000 watts. It's very cool what can be done but unobtainable for most. That's why I have never upgraded the trailers system to the full 1500 watts it can hold or hung panels off the sides like on pandamonium. Unobtainable or absurd doesn't inspire many to actually do it.

I have met the Wynn’s and followed them from the very early days. I really used to enjoy their videos. But the sponsor level and ad push got so much a year or two ago I lost interest. I will say they are awesome people and what you see is them, or at least it was. It’s sad when a channel gets popular and the money starts rolling in and changes the style/feel. Happened to so so many of my favs. You see it start happening and your like Nooooo!

The ability to fully charge a Tesla, as fast as it can be charged, via solar, is freaking awesome.
A plaid S doing 0 to 60 in ~3 seconds would also be incredible to feel. Doing it in ~4 seconds with a well tuned V8 manual transmission, seems unreal, intoxicating. Looks like he has a storage battery for charging it, overnight. Can he charge it as fast as it could be charged? Overnight too? It's a crime to have a solar panel, and not have it aimed at the sun, powering something,....... right.? Looks like his whole driveway was dedicated to large solar panels. Perhaps it was his back yard. Vegas, IDK. If hydrocarbon derived electricity needs to end, or simply 'should end', or just the amount consumed reduced significantly, whatever one's viewpoint..........or current opinionated 'facts' , either way, then the technological limits of potential alternatives should sought, refined, quickly. Will shows it can be done, right now, and that's awesome, in my opinion. ------ A/C. I want that ability. If only for an hour or two, via battery/solar. I can exchange/purge all interior air in under a minute, but an A/C unit can achieve well below ambient temps, where I need to suck shaded air from a cool source, shady source, to maintain slightly below ambient, from noon on. A hot parking lot/ spot, ain't got no cool spot to suck cold air from, and I can draw well more than 100 watts just via ridiculously powerful shrouded/ducted fans. a dedicated Lifepo4 setup, that could keep sub 72f internal temps, for 2 to 3 hours, midday in 85f to 90f ambient, able to then suck up everything my dual alternators can, make when I drive 'home', would be awesome. I could likely pull it off now with lead acid, but lead acid...3.5 hours from 80% to 100%, minimum, and better get there often, quickly.... I saw a windowshaker set up, years ago, with the Van's back door spare tire carrier hiding the AC unit from casual view. It was mounted through back door. No way could I put one in the back window. but hidden behind spare tire....... I've now got 40+ amps available to be used for HVAC, at idle, and '293 ah' of lead acid capacity for when engine is off. more insulation/ partitioning with a window shaker..... I am still concerned with the logic free, self righteous, drama loving doo gooders, who quickly assume a vocal, goofy, sweet, a well loved dog, is being subjected to an ignorant narcissistic oven, when I have to leave her alone. Also, Socal coastal summer weather, where 85F + is unusual, is guaranteed to exist in few other locations, in summer. Elsewhere, AC would not be ' just' a luxury . A winter without rain, is not an impossibility. A drought induced western exodus, anti gold rush, might not be optional in the future. Those tens of thousands of people in Louisiana, currently without electricity after Hurricane IDA smeared the region , heat index of 105f,.... how much would they love even two hours of an AC blowing on them midday? And not have to worry about finding a gas station 3 hours away, with a 6 hour wait in line? Good on Will, bravo. Wish that more if his generation were similar. |
