thinking rv roof coatings

It was pretty rubbery feeling for almost a week till cured out. It has held up well but the sheen has turned to flat white now. Still looks good though and I'm happy with it. It was in the $50/gallon range and did two coats with over a quart left over. Henry's was the brand if I remember right and got it at HDepot.

i found the elastomeric but henry's says not to use it for rv's,look at the q&a https://www.homedepot.com/p/Henry-587-Du.../202091035

they recommend this https://www.homedepot.com/p/Henry-887-Tropicool-0-90-Gal-White-100-Silicone-Reflective-Roof-Coating-HE887HS142/206029976?MERCH=REC-_-pip_alternatives-_-202091035-_-206029976-_-N&

A delaminated gel coat should not just be sealed over. It will just grow into a bigger delam. Every super hot day a bit more.

Find the edges of the delam...by starting in middle and working to edge.

Try to keep the area below delam clean. It could be fiberglass weave or fiberglass matt.

Either substrate will need to be impeccibly clean and scratched for mechanical tooth for the bonding of any subsequent layer.

I'd sand the whole degreased roof. 99 cent store scrubbie pads saturated with acetone. Keep a many a Clean rag to wipe acetone before it evaporates.
Ansell canners # 394 gloves, or equivalent.

Sand to 120 grit and save final pass for a new sharp piece of 120...do not wipe again with acetone as it will round the sharp hills and valleys and decrease bond strenght. Leaf blower the dust.

Mix a large but relatively slow batch of polyester finish/ sanding resin with roof not in direct sun on a warm day. white pigment in the resin is an option...but high hopes can be dashed easily.

Once thoroughly mixed, pour from mixing bucket into wide flt painting tray(s) keep the second one cool while using a fat knap roller to.spread an even layer over whole roof. Once it goes off stop touching it.

Mixed too much? Have something ready and waiting which needs, or could benefit from being sealed or encased in resin.

The roller will be well saturated and go from workable to not in about 30 seconds...the paint tray filled with resin shortly after.

Once cured fully wetsand with 150 to 220 and then roll on whatever you choose.

I use rustoleum marine yacht enamel at 15$ a quart can. This is tons better than their regular enamel.
Interlux yacht enamel is better @26$ a quart can.
Smooth foam roller. Multiple thin coats a bit less than a day apart. One thick coat will remain soft forever, and stinky for weeks...and years later when sanded again.

The quality of your prepwork and paint application determine the longevity. But like any paint it is happier when clean and rain water beads. Once oxidized/chalky it traps corrosive fallout easier, and degrades faster.

BT, right or wrong, it has held up well for me. I did prep it well with 120 grit sand paper. I also attached my solar mounting pads before the roof paint. They were attached with 3m 5200 after scuffing areas well with 60 grit. Luckly we had 3 days of rain after putting them on so they cured well. Roof paint came a few weeks after that.

PS, I used the tropicool variety. It was dry but rubbery feeling for days till it cured out.

My roof was totally shot.   Massive holes in it.  Most of the rafters were rotten thru.

Entire frame rebuilt from the inside, then hired a crew to lay the roof and put a rubber membrane over it.
So far it is holding up well.

The bedliner is everywhere else.    Recently added the roses....the paint is bedliner too

Btw....
I cannot do anything on my roof....a fear of heights that really kicks about the fourth step up the ladder.

Sorry...just saw this

Behind that big hatch is just an outside drop down table.    (Once upon a time there was a monster generator there...in a previous life )

Oh...on this other side...that is an awning that holds 6 solar panels for when I need to run AC
