Mattress--Serta Sleep to go
#11
I didn't want another online order, shot in the dark. I went mattress shopping at one of those "by appointment only" mattress shops (BoxDrop) today that is ran by friends of my parents. It will be delivered tomorrow.

Yeah, I am using a murphy bed along with an alexander mattress, yeah you can easily fix it in a trailer, the good thing is it's foldable and adjustable too, you can get your desired size from Reecoupons by using Rubix Mattress Coupons because I also bought my one from there according to my space, you also can use memory foam mattress.

hey kyz how do you like what you did end up getting?

I hated every rv mattress I ever owned....I super hated our air bed mattress when we tent camped and hated our cots we bought when I despised that damn air mattress too Smile

NOW I LOVE the mattress that came with the toyhauler. We put a foam top pad on it cause it was a tad firm and that fixed it great....we sleep so darn good on that darn cheapy thing LOL

Beds are so important, our sleep is so important.....man everyone wants a good nights sleep on a comfy bed Smile

Welllll... I kept it for a long while, but I gave it to my daughter. It wasn't as bad, but it was too tall and I worried every time I pulled the slide in (the closet area has to clear the mattress and it didn't).  I had given her the 5 inch RV mattress that came with the RV and my old 4 inch topper that I had for years/loved before getting the Serta mattress. So when I gave her the "boxdrop" mattress, I just took the mattress/topper combo back.

So... I'm still hoping to find a better mattress. I still wake up with back pain unfortunately, but I blame the brick (Serta mattress) I slept on combined with years of doing stupid shit (falling) and injuring my back.

There used to be a guy on a boat forum I followed. Think Mainsail or Sternwake testing and reviews except about mattresses. I didn’t read it with as much interest as I do Sternwakes scientific method.

But suffice to say this guy lived his life logging and dragging logs by boats down to wet sorts and haul outs, and commercial fishing crabs in the season. He had all sorts of observations about mattresses and sleeping platforms and hammock sleep systems.

The take away was anything that came stock was firestarter and should be replaced. Sleep after a life hard lived was super important. What we think we like and what is good for our sleep may be completely different so be open minded. Cheap rarely works or lasts long. Bye once cry once. I’ll see if I can find some of his links as they were really funny at times.

Kyz oh sorry that didn't work out.

I know the RV beds are 'shorter' and have that darn custom size and yes it has to clear a slide for sure LOL

Good thing it was just easy to switch them back out.

My hubby broke his back and we worked a farm for 40 years and worked hard azz jobs, like his being on his feet 12 hrs a day shift work on concrete and what works for him on bad back....ain't just the bed....he uses a knee support thing that 'sets' his back in a better alignment.....they sell them at walmart....pic below, cheapy thing....

makes a world of diff. when he uses it and when he doesn't....so now it is like part of him for his sleep time since it truly cuts some of that problem when he wakes and he truly sleeps better to get a deeper sleep cause he is one to moan and groan when turning over and all that so this little contraption helps more than he care to admits.....maybe worth a $20 to try and see if it does any improvement for you?   just a suggestion cause darn if backs ain't the worst!!

We got a king in our master in the rv and I know when I replace I will have to shop 'RV mattress' supply for exact size cause I know just any old king ain't gonna be the right size, the same trouble you are having on replacement.

I do get that, but the two mattresses I tried cost just over $300 (1st) and $350 (2nd). I don't consider that cheap, but I know the "good" mattresses can cost $1,000 or more. I can't hardly think about pulling the trigger on that. And what makes it difficult is not knowing it would be all they claim it to be. What if I get a $1,000 "brick" etc...

PS: Sorry, couldn't resist the edit. = )

My bed platform is a full queen, but with the rounded corners at the bottom so I don't worry too much about getting a "regular" queen mattress. I tried the knee support pillow, but it didn't work out. It was too thick and felt awkward. Plus, I toss and turn. lol I have a flat pillow that I use sometimes.

The height max I have is 11 inches. The 2nd mattress was 12 inches. The sales lady measured the mattress, but it was a pillow top and she didn't actually measure the pillow top part. I did not pay attention to that detail. (My lesson learned is to measure everything myself of course.) I was always pushing the mattress down and under the cabinet, which had to be very bad for it.

Lol. No issue with the edit. Lol.

Yeah I get it. It’s a hard position to be in , no pun innuendo. Add a bit more to those numbers in wet musty boats. I saw numbers around half that but I couldn’t find the forum anymore...I’ll look again tomorrow. Watching Floyd.
