How old is your shampoo??
#11
Generally speaking, my little dog gets a bath about once every week or so, usually on Saturday....that helps me remember. Sometimes it is a bit longer between baths for her....but I sure do love they way she smells and her soft fur after a bath...plus she is extra happy and 'playful' after a bath...so it's a win-win for both of us.

I've been using some Burt's Bees oatmeal shampoo.

Bought it recently, but has a 2017 date on the sticker. It does not lather particularly well and a lot needs to be used even when her hair is shorter.

I most prefer to brush, comb, then fleacomb Fiona when she is still wet and sandy from frolick/prancing in the Pacific. Her hair is never fluffier or softer than after this occurs. She does not smell like wet dog when pacific wet, as she does when she gets shampoo'd with fresh water.

A Pacific Dip is not always a viable option though, but it is the preferred method for both of us. She seems to scratch less after a Pacific dip. Too frequent bathing with shampoo has her scratch way more. She rarely gets fleas but the times she has and I have used flea shampoo, well that stuff does not agree with her skin and scratching increases, and I hate the pesticide smell. But fleas need to die, and sometimes they seem able to outrun the comb, or leap off if it back onto her.

Now that it has rained a bunch the Pacific is Brown and polluted with bacteria laden urban runoff, so the Burt's Bees might come out soon. I have to get drops in her ears soon after a Pacific dipping, even when it's clean/clear, or she will get ear infections, same as me.

Several days of antibiotics, and they are doing a bit better. The pain is reduced, along with the inflammation and redness.

Now we get to survive the ITCHIEEZZZ!!
Got a Very simple tea-tree/neem/aloe shampoo for the current situation. Tag team baths at a tub-rent place. Soap-soak-gentle wash- rinse while I go back and forth between them, so they each get goood long turns soaking off the massive scabbing. (They also took turns trying to convince the attendant they were being horribly mistreated-lol)
And they get antihistamines 2-3x/day

It will be a while, but they are mending.
And found a good new general shampoo for them for after the hell subsides.
