2 TYPES OF TIRES ON 1 VEHICLE?
#1
IT LOOKS LIKE I AM GOING TO BECOME A UNPREPARED VAN DWELLER WITHIN THE NEXT 4 TO 6 WEEKS,

SINCE I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT TYPE OF ROADS I MAY DRIVE ON I'M THINKING ABOUT PUTTING SOME OPEN COUNTRY AT ll's ON THE REAR OF THE SAFARI SINCE IT'S A REAR WHEEL DRIVE.

WHEN I HAD THE CURRENT DESTINATION ll's  <<<<< {I THINK THEY ARE II's} PUT ON I WENT UP TO 225/ R15s.  I WAS TOLD THAT WAS THE BIGGEST I COULD USE WITHOUT CHANGING RIM SIZE AND/OR CUTTING OUT SOME SHEET METAL SO THE TIRES WOULDN'T RUB.

IN THE "OLDEN DAYS" I OFTEN RAN DIFFERENT TIRES AND SOMETIMES DIFFERENT SIZES TOO.  MY '57 FORD FAIRLANE HAD SHACKLES ON THE REAR AND SOME KIND OF METAL DOO DADS THAT SCREWED INTO THE COIL SPRINGS?  MY DEARLY DEPARTED HUBBY DID THAT.
I JUST THOUGHT IT LOOKED KOOL Cool

WE RAN WIDER TIRES WITH A MORE AGGRESSIVE TREAD ON THE BACK OF MY '78 CHEVY CARGO VAN.  THIS WAS BECAUSE EVERYTIME HE DROVE IT ON THE BEACH HE EITHER ACTED LIKE HE WAS ON A SLIP-N- SLIDE  OR HE'D GET THE DAMN THING STUCK.  ONE NIGHT I HAD TO SLEEP WITH MY FEET AGAINST THE REAR DOORS/WALLS TO KEEP FROM ENDING UP LOOKING LIKE A PRETZLE CUZ WE WERE STUCK AT SUCH A INCLINE.  LUCKILY A DUDE IN A JEEP PULLED US OUT BEFORE THE INCOMING TIDE DID Undecided

THE ALINER WILL GET SOME ATTENTION LATER THIS MONTH AND HOPEFULLY I'LL BE ABLE TO RAISE AND LOWER IT.  THEN IT AND THE SAFARI GET ALL WIRED TO TOW   Big Grin  WHOOPEE!! IT'S A GOOD THING TOO.  TODAY THE CHEAPEST RENTAL I FOUND WAS A MOBILE HOME FOR $350mo DOWN IN CHIPLY FL AND IT NEEDS WORK.

I WELCOME ANY INPUT ON THE TIRES.  I HAD MY RANGER 4X4 FOR 13ys.  EVERYTIME I BOUGHT TIRES IT SEEMED LIKE A BATTLE.  SINCE IT WAS RATED FOR PASSENGER TIRES. I WAS CONSTANTLY SAYING " NO I WANT TRUCK TIRES OR HD TIRES CUZ IT'S LIFTED AND I TOW TRAILERS WITH IT"  SHEESH!!    Rolleyes

NOW I NEED TO PICK AND CHOOSE MY BATTLES CUZ I'M JUST TIRED.  I'M OK THOUGH.

Consider that having different front and rear tires also complicates your choice of spare tire.

I'd go with same all around .

Do you really expect to go that far off road ?
If you do end up changing out the rears , maybe match up the fronts when they wear (or age) out.

Deep lug treads can be noisy too.
stay tuned

EXCEPT FOR ABOUT 6 WEEKS OF FOOD, TODAY I WILL PACK FOOD UP & IT GOES TO A FRIENDS 'TIL LATER.

ANOTHER FRIEND WILL BE HERE PART OF NEXT WEEK.  A LOT OF CLOTHES AND OTHER THINGS WILL BE PASSED ON TO HER.

I HAVE A SPOT IN A AUCTION ON 10/25.  THE OWNER CALLED YESTERDAY AND SAID "BRING MORE STUFF, ESPECIALLY HOME DECOR"  I CAN DO THAT!!!!

ANOTHER FRIEND WILL SPEND SEVERAL DAYS HERE AND WE WILL WORK ON THE ALINER.  WE'LL MAKE THE LIFT ASSIST THAT SLIM POTATO HEAD ON YOU TUBE BUILT FOR HIS.  SLIM HAS A LOT OF DIY STUFF THAT WILL WORK ON THINGS BESIDES ALINERS.  LIKE A HIDE AWAY INSIDE SHOWER THAT HE BUILT IN A SMALL DINNETE BENCH SEAT.   HOW TO CHANGE AND INSTALL A DEAD BOLT DOOR LOCK,  ALSO HOW TO INSTALL A PASSIVE HOUSE GABLE VENT.  HE PUTS ONE IN HIS ALINERS LOWER DOOR.

I NEED TO  WORK  AND TAKE CARE OF MYSELF.  I HAVEN'T BEEN DOING THIS LATELY AND I'M PAYING FOR IT NOW.

MY GAME PLAN IS:

PAY MORE ATTENTION TO QUEENIE.  SHE IS SO ATTUNED TO MY FEELINGS THAT WHEN I'M UPSET SO IS SHE.  I'VE PUT HER A NEW PILLOW IN THE CENTRAL HALLWAY.  THAT WAY SHE CAN SEE WHERE I AM AND WHAT I'M DOING.  LATE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON I PARKED THE VAN ACROSS THE SIDEWALK THAT GOES FROM THE STREET TO MY FRONT DOOR.  I CLIPPED HER LONG LEASH TO THE SIDE DOOR OF THE VAN.  SHE SAT AROUND BEHIND THE VAN KEEPING A EYE ON THE NEIGHBORS ACROSS THE STREET.  ALSO FOLKS WALKING BY ACROSS THE STREET.  WHEN THEY ARE ON OUR SIDE OF THE STREET SHE GIVES THEM A WARNING BARK AND THEN COMES TO TELL ME SOMEONE IS NEAR.

PULL/PACK & MOVE EVERTHING I WANT TO KEEP TO USE.

PULL/PACK & MOVE ITEMS TO SELL @ AUCTION
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
ITEMS FOR DONATIONS

KEEP UP WITH DAILY HOUSE HOLD CHORES.

AND IN THE MIDDLE OF BEING EVICTED I'M STILL SUPPOSED TO PAY MY RENT?!!!?? I HAVE A $250 DEP. ON A $300mo APT.  LAST YEAR MY RENT WAS $360......I THINK I WAS OVERCHARGED.

Huh  TIME IS FLYING BY  Confused Undecided Sad

I DON'T EXPECT TO BE SERIOUSLY OFF ROADING.  HOWEVER I MAY BE DRIVING ON WET GRASS OR SANDY AND DIRT OR ROCK ROADS.

OUR '71 FORD 3/4 TON HAD WHAT GARY CALLED "MUD GRIP" TIRES.  MAYBE THAT WAS BEFORE "OFF ROAD TIRES" BECAME A THING?

I RAN HEAVIER TIRES ON MY HOT SHOT TRUCK WHICH WAS A 1981 GMC DUALLY THAT I USED TO TOW A 40ft LOADCRAFT MINI FLOAT.  I DID OFF ROAD WITH THAT RIG THOUGH.  OUT TO OIL RIGS MAINLY AND THE ROADS WERE OFTEN A  P I T A.  A FEW WERE JUST RUTS ACROSS A FIELD, NOT OFTEN THO.

MY '81 FORD 1 TON WAS A DAILY DRIVER SO JUST NORMAL ROAD TREAD ON IT.

I DON'T RECALL TOO MUCH ROAD NOISE WITH ANY TIRE.
MAYBE I HAD MY 8 TRACK TURNED UP TOO LOUD   Big Grin  OR THE CB?

IT WILL BE CHEAPER TO ADD & JUST BUY SOME VEHICLE RETRIVEAL ITEMS.  ALL I'VE EVER CARRIED IS A HEAVY TOW STRAP IS THAT ENOUGH?

CAN WE START A LIST?

Personally I think that the strap should be enough. I doubt that you will be doing much off road.

No need to ask for trouble by buying a lot of retrieval equipment.

it's pretty common to go with a more aggressive tire in the rear in farm world, can get a little goofy with the two different characteristics trying to ride different grooves in the road,if they all are the same diameter the spare will be fine,it's temporary anyways,if donut spare always put it in the rear,if the front goes flat, remove a rear tire and put it in front and donut in rear

I have some fairly aggressive tread all terrain tires, Cooper AT3 in LT30x9.5x15, which is a light truck tire.

Light truck tires, opposed to passenger tires, have stiffer sidewalls, and need to be inflated to higher PSI to carry the same weight and will have a 50 PSi max rating instead of 41, at least on a 15 inch rim.

Light truck tires are derated weight wise, but passenger tires are not, but need to be when installed on a taller vehicle which can exert more weight on the outside tire when turning.

Passenger tires ride much smoother, but are more prone to sidewall punctures should offroading occur.
Passenger tires are a bit lighter, and this helps increase MPG's a smidge to a few smidges.

My AT tires are kind of loud, I got to keep them close to max inflation or they get ridiculously loud at certain speeds, like 45mph being the worst. They have knocked at least 1/2mpg of my highway MPG maximum average, compared to my previous AT tires of the same size.

I did have some wider tires in the rear for a few months, but both those tires had tread separation issues in Baja a few months later, and I decided to always stay with 4 equal size tires from then on, as switching tires around to keep the drive axle tires the same was a pain in the butt.
One does not want to run tires of different diameter on the drive axle for very long.

Only Once, in the 2 years since I have owned these latest AT tires, has an AT tire been desired over a Non all terrain tire, And the Non all terrain tire would likely have been fine on the Titus Canyon track in Death Valley.

I like the look of the AT tire on my Van, I don't like the loss of MPG, nor their noisier nature, and this might be my last pair of AT tires, though I will likely stick with Light truck tires instead of passenger tires with an XL( extra load) rating. The 30x9.5x15 size is slightly bigger than 235/75-15, and my Speedometer reads dead perfect at 60mph with the larger tires, and reads too fast with the 235-75-15 tires it came from the factory with.

AT and Light truck tires might not have any tread life warranty.

Do stick with name brand tires, don't buy the no name tires which the purveyors will say are 'Made by Michelin' or some other known quality tire maker.

Discount tire will match any online tire price with shipping, just print out your desired tire from cheapest online purveyor including shipping.

Tirerack.com has lots of tire reviews. I bought some Kumho SATKl61 based on its good reviews and being rated #2, but a year later the same tire was ranked near the bottom amn the tire on top was still on top Firestone destination AT. Those tires at 6 years of age nearly exploded driving through the desert in August, despite having lots of tread, but were good tires for the 5.5 years previous.

My wifes car needed tires, the same brand the came with. They were odd size & Pirelli's & everyone local had to order them. I looked on ebay & bought 4 90% ones for #225/shipped so 4 for less than 1 & the installer I use owns the shop & couldn't believe the price & quality so you might look there as I will next time.
