I went back and forth for my build. I love to cook and I can cook well. I don’t want the water vapor in the primary living space. Living in the PNW you get/understand cold temps and 80% humidity. Then you heat the small space up, adding water vapor from propane, and wetness. Oven no oven. Food smells inside primary living area. I know not a concern for Quartzite dwelling but deep in the BC backwoods. Jim long-tailed Denver shaking my rig for more brownies or pear and Gorgonzola thin crust pizza is one thing. 1000 pound alpha predator bear is entirely different.

Like everything in our homes it is all about use/want/need. The stove storage is a great idea for cells/laptops/various devices that charge via usb and contain lithium batteries. Add a gang brick of USB output connections and a switch and perhaps mounts or padded places for devices. Kill two birds with one stone. Safe, easy to find, organized, and protected tech storage.

I recently hooped my iPhone. Plane charging point took out charger unit and diode. Got that fixed and then ran over it. Anyway. I have had loads of laptops, iPhones, iPods, blah blah ad-nausea and never ever had one smoke. Until it did. Sitting on a table made of butcher block it went thermal. Scorched a three inch past the device circle. Two corners burnt to carbon ignition point, as in the wood was black and crispy. Hate to think what might have happened had I left it, as I usually do, plugged in and lying on my pants.

Look around! Where is your mobile plugged in? Now imagine sleeping and waking up to that area engulfed in flames. I notice most people put their phones by the door. Perhaps a longer cord and place in the dry sink would be an easy fix.

Beside the bed in a handy homemade fabric pouch might be handy but...

We don’t think about this stuff. I know I didn’t. I have Never had a laptop or cell or any other usb powered gadget go thermal until my recent phone did. I owned the first portable apple computer so...loads of gear.

Now I am going to mount a Pelican case with an airtight power in point and all devices, laptops, InReach, Cell phone, Sat Phone, iPads, Garmin tablet, mobile radios; will charge inside it when sharing the rig with me.

The oven, or the sink, work well too. I just have either of those in my build.

Scott. That’s going to be a nice setup you’re planning. I decided to do safer and more organized setup with my devices also so will look into the Pelican box.

Loads cheaper than Pelican. Don’t get stuck on the name. Anything air tight will work. To contain the issue. Not stop the issue. Lol. I should have wrote I don’t have an oven or a sink in the traditional sense. I have a sink but...it’s different. Although the oven is good to as long as you have a “magic smoke” detector.

Perhaps, instead of a Plastic (flammable) pelican style case.. use a gasketed Ammo box.. takes up less space..does not need to be insulated.. less flame friendly.. and still goodly water/air tight
