Just checking the colour of the grass...
#1
I've been following along and occasionally posting at CRVL for about a year now.  After discovering this forum I've been lurking to test the waters and see if the grass is greener.

What should I expect are the differences between the two, from the perspective of people who have experienced both?

I like this one better because it's a much smaller group. I also like that I'm not seeing know it all-know nothings here.

This is a smaller and wiser bunch. It is very supportive here. I post in both places, but consider this my online home. I have no complaints with CRVL, but with so many non nomads and wanna bees posting that place is full of bad advice, there is always some good advice as well, but too many inexperienced cooks ruin the kitchen.

Just my opinion.

And this place hosts the YARC camp in Quartzsite.

I totally quit CVRL, got peed off too many times at blowhards and catfights, then heavy handed mods...
This site is no-nonsense and very little bickering, nobody seems to be out to prove anything and there’s no reasons to be fake.

Ha ha, I spotted you’re Cdn due to spelling of colour, which is fine cause I’m a BC transplant...

This site isnt real active but theres enough to read.

“Tyres” also throws Americans off as well...

Smile Hello WC and Welcome

This December is my 3rd anniversy on CRVL.  I've also been a member here since right after it started.

One difference here is that it's O.K. to wander off topic a little.  So far I haven't seen posts deleted because it strayed a little.

Common courtesy is nice.  Mainly don't be a jerk.  I once told a new member that it might be O.K. to be a jackass.

I will not tell you that Cuz Gary threatened to make me the official greater of New Bs after I said it the 1st time  Huh

If I were to compare the two forums:

CRVL is like a stadium full of people trying to talk over one another.

This forum is more like an intimate dinner party, where people take turns discussing things.

Sounds promising. I've always done better one-on-one and in small groups.

The downside is that sometimes smaller groups lack the sheer volume to produce a few true experts. But then there are the false experts... Wink

Canadian english is an odd thing. Due to the vast American influence on computers and the Internet, I get a red squiggly line every time I type COLOUR with the CORRECT spelling - according to the language rules of my country. When I program, I often have to use "color" in different variations because "colour' is the wrong spelling. Then there's "through" instead of "thru" (I think) and lots of others I can't think of right now. "Tyres" is British english, which is another topic entirely. For me, it's "tires" - just to confuse the hell out of everyone who's trying to pay attention. Smile

You've noted an absence of a few things "here" than I don't like "there", so I may start spending more time here than there.

I can be brutally honest, blunt and without tact at times, but never intentionally malicious. I appreciate when people can see the difference.

Huh? When did courtesy become common again? Musta been the same time that "sense" did...

I always chuckle when people abbreviate my handle to "WC". In parts of Europe, this is the sign you find outside of public toilets. It's short for "Water Closet". But I suppose a van isn't _that_ much different, just without the plumbing.
