If I remember right(which is a big IF) the LTVA next to the Holtville CA Hotsprings required your vehicle to be 100% self contained with black/grey water tanks.

That requirement would put it off limits to me and a lot of rigs.

Is this common for LTVA areas?
Theoretically, yes, I think, but as long as you haven't dug a latrine and aren't off pooping behind the few trees, you're good, I think. There were a LOT of non self contained people at LaPosa, anyway.

Well forgive me for not posting much as of lately I have been working 12 hour days 5-6 days/week. So I apologize for not being more active. Ever since someone got their feelings hurt over historical facts and references I resist replying or posting of anything. I feel like I have alot less Liberty now here. Just my nature. If I'm not helping then I tend not to share or respond. Not out of fear of getting banned again. Only out of respect to Gary and the other great people here that I admire and respect. I hope that if this forum ends then we can get together and share our contact information with those who might want it. There are a few people that have left this forum that I still stay in contact with by phone and/or email. And networking is one key to survival.
I will be heading back Arkansas to the family ranch in Texas this weekend where my new to me bus is and will document it best I can.
I am grateful to Gary for all that he does to maintain this forum for me and others. I hope it does not go away. There is so much shared information on here that I truly hope to be able to go back to it throughout my build. I'm also hoping that I can help others through my challenges ahead. Thank you for being yourselves VDF'ers ! David

American Nomad Patriot,

I've just read your post and don't understand why you would think that Garry is going to close down the forum? As far as people leaving, people come and go for a number of reasons. I personally was one of them, At the time of joining the forum i was going through my green card process and i had spent over $7000 to get it the legal way and one of the stipulations was to not get involved with drugs, prostitution's, the wrong crowd or non government affiliated groups that were or would do harm to the U.S. During my attendance on the forum there was a lot of hemp or cannabis talk and even though i don't care what others do and the fact that i understand that most people use cannabis for pain relief. I didn't want to be associated with the group, not because i didn't like the people or anything but mainly because i didn't want to have my green card rejected and to be separated from my husband. So I asked to leave the forum and have my account deleted but at the time Garry being the nice person that he is didn't delete my account so i left. But now the forum is safe for me to come back to as there's no more talk about the alternative pain relief. Others left due to politics and others for other reasons. I know it's hard to accommodate everyone all of the time. And to be honest I'm not technically minded nor do i drive but i love the people here and only comment on non build topics other than that i'm lost.

Self contained at LTVA.

If you aren’t self contained then you have to camp so many yards from a bathroom.

We had no trouble in our group as long as one vehicle was self contained. We told the rangers that we were all using the bathroom in the rv

I thought that too when I looked up the Hot Springs LTVA.  It says self contained only because the bathrooms were across the highway and considered too far away.  I'm thinking each one has their own specific rules.  There is a regular BLM area a few miles from the LTVA so unless you are planning on spending more than 2 weeks at that place then I'd just stay there...  then head up to the Slabs after that.

the site is paid for until september 2019 so before that we have to determine if we want to go on,if so start negotiation with the host or move to another

i didnt think this site would go anywhere but did sign up for two year because of the introductory discount,if i remember right i can get the rights to vandwellerforum.com for 10 year and hosting for 5? or something like that but the regular price is kinda high so will need some time to work on the host(a2hosting)for a good long term price

I found A2 to be a decent host when I had my site. We can always toss a few coins in the jar if need be so you don't have to bear the full cost. I like the place and would like it to continue but I don't want any stripes on my sleeve. I'm content to be a regular user and unofficial pixeltwister should someone need some pixels twisted.

Gary,
Depending on the cost of the upkeep of the forum and the membership total of the group if everyone is willing can we all chip in to cover the annual cost?

The only other thing with forums like this is members if you can get a certain number of members to join like Bob Well's group then what happens is you get bombarded with businesses who will offer you money to advertise their products on your forum to you members. That's how these types of forums operate. The forum then grows with more membership more advertisements and all your expenses are paid for.
