Oh man how fun! I always wanted to do that. I even better bought a couple of metal detectors years ago but never used them.

I gotta try

It was getting kinda old till he picked up that ring !
New found enthusiasm.......

Plus I know a guy that does the major beaches after a sand stripping storm (like those Northeasters we been getting)
He's found a buttload of rings including a diamond one @ 20K !
He has a pricey detector but the cheap ones will find metal. Just not as deep.

I saw a yt vid about a device called gold radar. amazing ! no prices given though........
HDR NEEDS ONE !
stay tuned

I found an old Greek coin when I was swimming in Anapa it was heavy but not all good but probably gold in it. I gave it to the museum there and I never have to pay to come see it. Well other than going there. LOL! It was exciting. Lots of people do it in Anapa as they sell WW2 nazi memorabilia to the weird people who like to collect it. Anapa fell to Nazi's in WW2 and they had a huge SS headquarters there. So lots of daggers and hat brass and the like. The locals can't believe an original SS Blood and Honor dagger is worth 1000 usd. This is like a two-month salary for them.

Sounds like a good score for a day, enough of one to motivate you to get out there another day anyways.

I've been wanting to get into metal detecting for as long as I can remember. When I was sick and on crutches I was watching some Youtube videos on guys that did the beaches. And I thought that it was a hobby i'd never be able to partake in and was ok with that reality. But, being able to walk the dog a few miles a day again and growing, looks like maybe it's time to resurface plans for trying my hand at it.

I guess all the metal detectors aren’t the same. Matt, if you are going to buy one I’d get with someone who really knows them.

Seems I have a good old one but the new one wasn’t worth a hoot.

Agreed, I have some good ones on my list. I did some forum asking around a few years back. I'd go in and make sure that info is still up to date before I pulled the trigger. The decent to good ones are expensive, but i'm at the stage where I prefer to pay for quality when possible.

Hope you're having fun there RVpopeye,
I have to laugh because i personally have an inbuilt metal detector. Back home in OZ i used to find a lot of gold and silver jewelry most of it was 18 carat chains, ingots, bracelets, earrings, rings and coins like our $1 and $2 dollar coins as well as notes. Now that i'm in the states all i find is 1cent, 5 cent and 25 cent coins and some notes. I'm dying to go out and do the gold prospecting and diamond digging thing. Just waiting here very impatiently I might add.

My father did that for years; his detectors are still down in the shed.

All I recall him finding is tabs from old soda/beer cans- You know, when the old ones used to tear all the way off

I'm gonna need more info on your built in detector capabilities !
???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Mine is an old Micronta (Rat-io Shack), top end back in the 80s , but pretty basic for these days.
Got it in a swap meet for an old drill or something else I can't remember Rolleyes

Lots of votes for the Minelab Eqinox on YT videos.
$800-900 though !
Lots of bells and stuff. Even Bluetooth ! Rolleyes

The difference with the big $ ones is they "tell" (more of a guess) you what the target is and how deep.
And they find deeper/smaller items.
Some of the new ones use more than one frequency at a time for a better find ratio. Or have special software for specific targets like gold or old coins.

I often ask myself if I really WANT to dig 24" deep holes to find out the "gold" item was actually a piece of balled up aluminum foil ( very similar signature )........ mine's good for about 6" plus or minus a couple....

of course , that might be exactly what the DR. ordered ? Wink

The White and Garrett models fall somewhere in the middle....
and fleabay or crank's list might provide a good find from time to time too.

Lots of people buy one and give it up as too hard or some other excuse... Cool

I'm waiting for a nice ring or coin to pay for a high dollar rig............ Tongue

They all find metal bottom line.
WHERE you look is more important than WHAT you're using for a detector. Dodgy

MN
Dig 'em out and go give 'em a try !
