Many American companies have cheap junk made in foreign countries, ship it home and sell it here, and I'm sure that tires are no exception. Do you think American companies have outsourced more than 14 million jobs to slave-labor countries just so they can shift the costs to improving materials and design?
And just because a company says it's safe, or high-quality, how do we know? Have you ever heard of safety recalls?
Stupid people cause stupid deaths by texting while driving, by driving too fast, by weaving in and out of traffic to impress their friends, by looking down gun barrels while pulling the trigger (to see why it didn't fire the first time they pulled the trigger), by stepping in front of moving vehicles, by parking on a RR crossing to tease the train crew, etc, etc, etc.
Also, the general American income has been dropping for many years -- you don't buy expensive tires when you're having trouble buying gas.
