Just got this & was suprised as I've used chinese 16" trailer tires without a ptoblem. Let me know your thoughts please.
Tire failures kill more people on the road than cell phones. Nothing’s being done about it. Why? And why are we making it so easy for Chinese firms to bring in counterfeit tires? According to Jack Baruth, we all share the risks of cheap tires, even if we don’t buy ’em.

Many American companies have cheap junk made in foreign countries, ship it home and sell it here, and I'm sure that tires are no exception. Do you think American companies have outsourced more than 14 million jobs to slave-labor countries just so they can shift the costs to improving materials and design?
And just because a company says it's safe, or high-quality, how do we know? Have you ever heard of safety recalls?
Stupid people cause stupid deaths by texting while driving, by driving too fast, by weaving in and out of traffic to impress their friends, by looking down gun barrels while pulling the trigger (to see why it didn't fire the first time they pulled the trigger), by stepping in front of moving vehicles, by parking on a RR crossing to tease the train crew, etc, etc, etc.
Also, the general American income has been dropping for many years -- you don't buy expensive tires when you're having trouble buying gas.

That's ytue & name brands sell junk too. I think all tires now have a use by date & have gone way downhill the last few years & now go bad even if stored in the dark. I had a 1966 military 6x6 radio truck with under 7000 miles & the original 11 tires, all like new, all matched in brand & wear except the spare which wasn't used. No checks or checks at all.

IIRC, in 1966 and before they still used real rubber in tires instead of the tire black they now use to make tires. This is why they have to have the lubricants molded into the tires these days. I don't remember when they stopped using rubber from rubber trees.

I mentioned your post to my neighbor today, and he suggested that ALL tires may be cheap junk, and how would we know the difference?

I have never bought a chinese tire. I buy name brands and hopefully get what I pay for. I have had belts shift in two different sets of Michelin tires so I don't buy those anymore.

Nope, haven't run goodyears in a long time. Right now I have a mix of Yokohama's on the rear and BF Goodrich on the front of my van, load range E.

I used to buy new 16" load range 5 trailer tires mounted on very nice alum rims for $200 for a set of 4. Got them for many many friends, ran them on my truck & trailers, no one had any issue. The problem now is counterfitted tires from china as they do many products.
