I hardly ever post on sites anymore as most sites seem to become active with a few regulars that have similar ideas, been there a long time, herd together, support each other and are usually not that welcoming to those that are culturally different. Most sites won’t allow political discusion so the community never really gets to know anybody. I think when a community can;t exchange ideas no one grows from the relationships so I don’t see a point to engage. Vandwelling has been covered pretty thoroughly over the last decade and there is already plenty of data in e land on the subject. These sorts of forums may have seen their peak unless it is a forum on something new the information is out there and most people know how to find it so there is not really a need to ask that many questions anymore. So if the intention is creating a community of active members we have to exchanges of ideas, at times they will be heated, but that is all part of what communities do so I think forums like this have to allow political debate or there will be no drama and things will be too dull to bother loging on.

Flying k,
Much of what you say rings true. What a boring world this would be if everyone was in agreement or was not allowed their opinion. And today's world is "live" there's no shortage of opinions.
I find some forums and forum topics mindnumbingly boring and usually just avoid the rehash knowing where it leads. On the other hand I welcome a debate about a new take on boilerplate solutions.
Certainly if I have a jealousy it's not being able to live long enough to experience tomorrow's technology and the discussion of how it could make life even more interesting. The who and where that comes from won't ever happen without debate and free thought.
Gary provides a soapbox and it has very few strings. I'm good.

Actually that goes for the west coast of southern Africa too. This leg burner gem was not yet 'discovered' in '98:
As for the thanks button, I just can't do it. Its mere presence stresses me out, like some sort of obligation.
I know it how that 0 given looks next to my name, but I never comment or click the like button on FB either.
No offense, but I will stick with the sternwake theme which does not even have a thanks button.
No offence ever my friend. You are you, not an issue. It is your style and I would have it no other way. Just across the border so Xai Xai or shy shy as it is called in English and Portuguese. I heard about the surf even up North in Beira. Maputo too but that is close by. Did some diving for whale sharks and hammerheads was a trip for sure. Some old workmates set up a resort just south of the Beira corridor to Rhodesia er ah sorry Zimbabwe.

A friend and writer just got popular on Netflix and I think if you like tomorrows technology you will enjoy the ride he provides. He wrote it about 15 or 20 years ago and then well...did the Author thing waiting for a movie deal. Great read and a super awesome guy. Smart and socially/ethically/morally aware.
It is on Netflix
Altered Carbon
On topic I posted!!! LOL!

When the political crap starts I make the hasty exit. I joined this forum to discuss the ins and outs of living in a vehicle without all the hype of "sell everything you have and live in your car" that another popular site spews. If you want political banter then join a political forum. In here, the venue is centered around building your vehicle to live in, what new technology is here and on the horizon and how you use that technology, were to camp with good or bad recommendations, law or regulation changes that might effect us and the general everyday stuff that we enjoy sharing like jokes, stories, music.. etc. Things relating to this lifestyle change and sometimes they change very quickly so unless you have forums like this where people can contribute it is easy to miss that happened or is happening. I have my own political leanings as do pretty much everyone here and I can say for sure that we don't all lean in the same direction. Your political leanings makes zero difference to me and I won't debate it in here or around the campfire. I do drop my political views like Thor's hammer in OTHER places that are set up for that type of conversation. If someone finds this place boring or dull then it certainly isn't the place for them. Just my 2 cents on how I see this forum.

Yes, really glad that there's not people pressuring an agenda here!
Maybe people could share more about interesting boondocking spots- I think that's the biggest question I have is where to go in Winter.
CRVL had A FEW posts on this, and I found it extremely helpful.
I took it most people on there didn't boondock, therefore really nothing to add, LoL.

i was thinking about adding a science and history section to drum up some small talk, what does everyone think?
no politics, yes adult discussions, where the line is nobody knows,as long as it's civil and not the only thing you talk about or derailing threads with it,i'm fine
well, unless everyone wants to hear how i think most political/world issues can be solved by " a bullet to the head"

The Quartzsite BLM Has LTVA (Long term visitors area) where for $180 you can stay at a number of locations for about 8 months. In Q there is water, dump, and trash available to use. Some vault toilets. Once you land and start talking with people you can find exactly what you want. We were on the Colorado River at a free spot for a while.
It takes face to face meetings to get this information. Otherwise it becomes burning man with 100,000 vehicles trying to fit in space for 10. Not everyone gets along. Music dogs and campfires being examples of points of disagreement.

We stayed in Quartzsite on the LTVA this winter. It’s very cheap and you get bathrooms, a dump station and mostly important WATER.
It can get pretty dusty but all in all it’s worth it. There are tons of people of all sorts out there and we really did have a lot of fun.
We also parked down on the river in Ehrenberg some which was nice.
I like to stay busy and we have a UTV we take out into the desert to visit old mines and other sites. I could do that everyday.
The town has a lot of interest groups and you can find just about anything you are interested in.
If you get a chance you are welcome to join us for a day or month or ? this coming winter. We hope to get the same spot as last year.

Thanks!
I just might do that!
Got a few months to plan, and then there's possibility I could get a BLM/NF temp job.
