Thinking about the life- looking to get my feet wet
Posted by: CamoCountrygirl - 09-30-2019, 03:04 PM - Forum: Welcome Center - Replies (37)

Hi everyone!

I am a part time camper...have a little older travel trailer...and am semi retired...becoming more and more disillusioned with this "American Dream" thing....and being on this hamster wheel of life....I have always been a grounded responsible homebody type- but lost my enthusiasm somewhere along the line and am beginning to consider my options....I live in Southern Arizona and after so many summers in the desert I have about had it with the heat...sure I could move, but anything I desire would surely include some kind of mortgage- even after the proceeds of my little place...not sure I want to do that all over again...being tied...indebted to the system...and once again on the hamster wheel like a rat....although I am intrigued with the nomadic lifestyle, not sure if that might not be too extreme for me- of course I am scared...so a very nice member of this site saw my post about my plight on another RV living forum and sent me the link for this forum....she also invited me to the YARC gathering in Quartzite to help me get my feel wet and meet people...although I am gonna wait until it's a bit cooler, I do plan on dropping by the YARC camp for a few days....I am a single gal and it will be just me and my 2 hiking dogs...so I would enjoy touching base with other YARC members...maybe getting to know everyone a little through email exchange ...it sure would help me feel a bit more comfortable! Even though the YARC camp is small and cozy the Quartzite gathering is a little intimidating....looking forward to meeting others!

Ha !  Found you.  Yinz can run but ya can't hide.
While my passion is to be a vanwanderer, I'm still a S&B guy for awhile.
Mostly due to circumstances beyond my control.
I know there has to be some gypsy blood in these veins somewhere.
I seem to spend a lot of time staring out the living room window.
Recently retired after a few decades of construction, the body is enjoying its rest.
I go camping once a month, at least, usually within a three hours radius of home base.
But now I camp during the week and have found more empty spots, places and sites.
All good things come in due time to those who wait.
Anywho, I hope to be able to contribute.
Peace,
~RL

  Passport & drivers license... BS...
Posted by: Snikwahjm - 09-19-2019, 05:41 PM - Forum: Useful Information - Replies (25)

Ok. When I got my drivers license they wanted me to upgrade? Ok so I had to have a bunch of mail with my address on them, my socialist security card, my drivers license, my birth certificate AND a marriage license that was not hand written by the preacher.... since I dwattled around I went to the state office and got one. To get it I needed my drivers license, socialist security card and my birth certificate. Then I got a copy of the hand written marriage license copied on official paper... go figure. Got that drivers license yesterday. So today I went to get a passport. I took every one of the papers I needed. They said my birth certificate wasn’t any good because my parents names weren’t on it. It has been adequate for a very long time... I was hatched. I knew it all along. So I sent for the birth certificate.... they only wanted my socialist security number and drivers license.... $63.... to prove I was born.

Wink I'm New but I Deserve A Badge Anyway
Posted by: MoonTiger - 09-13-2019, 05:43 PM - Forum: Welcome Center - Replies (56)

I'm Paulette and I'm certain I deserve a stinkin' badge for the following reasons:

1) I left Denver 8 months agoo with only $300 (what???)  in a 21 year old money pit of a car called the Dodge Neon.

2) My car broke down on average every month depleting most of my income.

3) I moved in with Abnorm (Doug) approximately 3 months ago. I ditched my car at a salvage yard. (you did WHAT??? Didn't keep the car in case, you know, it doesn't work out.)

4) Last night I read the first 25 pages of the YARC Warped Edition thread. Who does that anyway?

Hi All.

I am getting ready to go full time in my 1997 Van and a 23ft Travel Trailer.

I am almost ready to hit the road, should be driving south to Quartzsite at the beginning of October.

I am not sure what else to say at the moment.

(except; Thanks to Cammalu for info regarding the YARC camp and this website)

  Re: foam insulation
Posted by: CatPerson - 08-31-2019, 12:00 AM - Forum: Passenger - Replies (8)

If fitting sheet foam insulation onto a curved surface, it is far simpler to use two flexible sheets of 1/2" than one sheet of 1".  If the 1/2" foam is purchased with a thin plastic sheet attached to it, may I assume that it is just protective, and there is no reason to leave it on when applying the foam?

RANDY THE MOBILE TRAVELLER RIG BURNT
Posted by: Texjbird - 08-22-2019, 10:38 PM - Forum: Vandwelling News - Replies (17)

ON THURSDAY 8/22 RANDYS TRAILER CAUGHT FIRE GOING DOWN THE ROAD ABOUT 100 MILES FROM PIERRE SD.

RANDY WAS ABLE TO GET UNHITCHED FROM THE TRAILER AND THEN FILMED IT WHILE STANDING BAREFOOT IN A FIELD ACROSS THE ROAD.  NO ONE STOPPED TO OFFER HELP.  I COULDN'T BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE WOULD DRIVE SO CLOSE TO A BURNING RIG.

I KNOW RANDY WAS AT THE VAN BUILD {I THINK JAMIES}.  I THOUGHT MAYBE SOME OF YOU GUYS MIGHT KNOW HIM.

DURING THE EARLY PART OF THE VIDEO HE COMMENTS  "IF ANYONE HAS ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT THE CAMERA SHAKING JUST BITE ME!!"}  I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE LEFT WHO USES THAT PHRASE.  WHEN I SAY IT TO MY SON WHEN HE'S GETTING ON MY NERVES HE SEZ " GEE MAMA REALLY?".
