Bertha 2.0
#1
It is official. We are, in some way or another going to purchase one of the 5 or maybe 6 window schoolies. I will begging looking now and learning as much as I can, as I did with our current rig. We plan to head back North to Oregon in spring rather than East. We will be in Florence until probably October of next year. The plan is to go to a place we know, is friendly towards our lifestyle and we can save more money. I am hopin to buy the schoolie by spring 20019. I plan to use this thread for notes, ideas and conversation regarding all things SHORT BUS. Please post away.
We will be using the same solar and fridge setup as well as continuing to use the two giant oak slabs as a table and counter top. We will have a wood stove and the same Dometic 45 CFX. Bed in the back. I would love to find one with a passenger seat. I would also be open to some of the shorter shuttle busses like Bertha.

diesel, the best you could expect out of a gas engine would be 10mpg,a diesel just deals with heavy better
an older carb 350,they are just cheap and parts everywhere
a newer ls engine would be nice but cost a bit for parts and the electronics but they are common

in general i like short buses, got some headroom and are commercial so built solid

I like the idea, but what are you going to do with your current rig? I once had a 21 ft Winnebago Brave. It was even fun to drive, so I can see the appeal of a shorter bus.
Are you two going to be happy with a shorter one though? Or do you have too much room now?

Bertha is too big. She runs like a damn top, whoever buys this bus will have a good 150k on her if cared for.
We have seen so many roads we could have been comfortable taking a shorty up that we are both to careful to take Bertha on. The parking spot thing as well. Maybe even gain some MPG (not a huge deal, but it would be nice.) We have made some serious life decisions as of late and a smaller bus is a part of that at this point. We are both so happy in the bus. We are blooming into even better humans.
We want to have a dedication ceremony in the near future.
A wedding.
Yes you are all invited!
After testing the waters, thisnis what we want. Most likely we will buy a chunk of land and in 10-20 years park our rig. During those years I will be building a small cabin to live out the rest of our lives.
Strangely Missouri is on my short list of states to buy land in.....
Very exciting times around here
TL;dr version =
Bertha is too big for our needs.
