It was Murphy.
I'll blame that SOB, but I will highlight all text and click copy each longer message from here on out.
Perhaps I should find whatever wordprocessing program is on this laptop and use it instead for composing longer diatribes against 'automatic' or 'just fine' brands of ignorance.
The urge to smash things, has abated. For now.

I used to keep a barrel of scrap wood in my cab shop.
If something went wrong , I'd break a bunch of it over my knee .
Always felt better.
The only problem I can see with this working for your problem is,
The only wood you normally carry is a surfboard !
Info is often lost in the data shuffle that is called "internet service provider"
(I don't think they really care about it at all..)
So ctrl+C often and best of luck to ya !.
stay tuned

I've gotten to where I'll Ctrl-a in the textarea (select all) and Ctrl-c (copy) write before hitting SEND on lengthy forum posts just in case.
Sometimes when a submission blows out you can back out (back a page) and get your text back. Sometimes it takes a very fast back+Esc to keep the previous page from force-reloading.
Forum software in general (not talking about here) is not conducive to thoughtful writing. That plus the editing time limit makes me more likely to write a blog or wiki post elsewhere and link to it from the forum post.

I totally get it, I tried for an hour last night (way less than you worked) on a simple Thread "Stickies" , kept getting bumped off and nothing saved. Finally learned to "Save as draft" about every 3rd letter, royal PITA. Should have typed in Word or Wordpad or something...
We appreciate your efforts though. Can you go back to CVRL, copy and then cut and paste some of your replies to people, and save some time that way?
