Oh geez. This week I am told that my insurance company will not insure my rv for any value above the Kelley blue book….which for a 1989 Honeywell is $2,370. Wow…that isn’t even half what the battery alone cost.
So…I called agents at just about every company…everyone is getting out of insuring these old RVs and conversions.
They are telling me that I need a certified appraisal. But, having talked to two companies (RV pricing and appraisal and RV pricing, appraisal and investigations) I learned that the certified appraisal doesn’t even look at the RV…but only comp sales and KB. But, my situation is difficult because there just aren’t any old Honeywells out there to do comparison sales. So, I cannot get a real appraisal. It was the opinion of one agent that insurance companies are requiring certified appraisal because old restored RVs and converted cannot get them. Insurance companies want out of the business. He said he was getting a couple calls a day now from people in my same situation.
I have talked to
Allstate, State Farm, farmers, geico, progressive, RV direct, National General, Miller RV. None of them are writing policies for old RVs
Condon and skelly isn’t wring policies for motor homes, neither is JC Taylor, haggerty, Grundy, or American classics.
I am being told this abandonment of old restored RVs and even conversions (like Schoolies) is happening everywhere now. Help. Anyone have any idea where I can get insurance?
I currently have progressive…but like I said there are not writing for more than $2,370. I would be better off to have no collision at all…then at least they wouldn’t total my rig for such a small sum.
Help.
