In-line switch..3 wires?

I have hunted for an in-line switch that can handle 10amps.    
Finally found one, but didn’t look closely enough at the picture.

It arrives…..three wires.  Red, black, and yellow.   I was expecting two wires…one for input, one for output..both red.

Huh?

I planned to cut the existing wire and splice in….but….what?

I have usually seen only two wires…one to splice to the existing power source the other to the device.   In-line..like it says.

Of course this came without any instructions or even labels.

Can someone explain how I wire this in?

We're gonna need a link or a pic or something.

Typical 'in-line' switches don't have wires pre-attached to the terminals, until you hook the 'lines' 'in' to them.

Probably, and I'm presuming, you have an SPDT (single pole double throw) type switch...and there is one common terminal and two on-off terminals.

Oh…you never added a switch to an existing wire.? It just attaches to the positive side…sliced into the existing red wire (pos).

I’ll try to attach pix…if not then a link to items on Amazon.

Usually, most 'inline' switches are designed to be installed into existing wires, and don't normally come with wires already attached. This is typical, but of course, there are thousands of designs of inline switches and some of them come with wires attached. But the reason I was requesting a pic or link is because without knowing exactly what you have, its hard to be of much help.

The one you ordered (#2 in your listing) appears to have a third wire for illuminating the LED, and there is a small wiring diagram on the listing.

Set DMM to ohms, see which two wires have continuity/no continuity when the button is pressed.

Before clicking the link I thought the 3rd wire was for ground, so the switch itself could trigger its own indicator light.

I could not see that diagram on my iPad. I used the Mac, and was able to get a screen shot.

I think it odd that the manufacturer needed that extra ground. Hum…. Well, I will splice it into the ground wire. First time for everything.
