lol...all that money spent when 5 cents worth of propane at the turn of a knob on the stove will heat up a large coffee pot full of water.

Big Grin

But that's why we call them a ......Class A!

We can now run the microwave for short times without the generator.

It used to be a huge deal to run my road pro oven while driving.

Glad you got it sorted and on the fix. Don’t worry about the shut down parts. The brain is very “plastic” , is the official medical term, and will relearn work arounds. Just have to get past the frustration of thinking and waiting. Think a TV remote that takes ten seconds. No stokes thank god. But a few stokes with heavy objects has similar effects. Best with a fixes.
Now we all learned something.

Still want an authors section. Miss all the super well written posts and stories. It’s such a huge difference to read a post that flows like water and takes you on down the stream than one like I write…

I miss them too along with the SW files. Some of them go way above my pay grade but the rest have taught me a lot.

John and Camilla had a few issues going on. First of which they came to me asking about a outlet getting hot running a convection oven while on the generator. Both the generator and a Magnum inverter/charger are MSW and somethings just don't like MSW. Both the plug and outlet are 20 amp so the only upgrade would be to replace the 12/3 Romex with 10/3. Now it appears that the oven itself is going out.

The charge controller was a Outback 80 amp. Top of the line for the day but it has no voltage sense line, is too far from the batteries, is underwired with 4 gauge and has poorly made hammer crimps on the lugs. (one fell off as I was looking at the circuit breaker box) Add it all together and the controller thought it was charging the batteries but was not because line loss kept it from seeing the correct battery voltage. Severely corroded battery cables were not helping anything either.

In this situation the controller needs to be within 3 feet of the batteries. The cables need to be as large as the terminals can handle and the lugs need to solidly crimped. Even then a voltage sense line is best.

They now have a Victron 85 amp controller with a bluetooth battery sensor. Today we install two 300 Ah Chins lithium batteries with bluetooth and heat in the compartment directly below the controller along side of the 3000 watt inverter/charger. The old inverter cables will be used to connect the coach loads to the new bank. I'd like to pull 2 gauge back up to the controller but we will see how it goes.

I hope this means that the mansion’s long troubling electricity woes are over. If that’s the case, I’ll be looking to meet you eventually, Jim, to wire my house batteries properly so the tow vehicle can charge them while rolling. And I want that fancy schmacy thingamajigs that switches automagically between converter and inverter so I don’t have to remember to do it myself.

WARNING anyone who attempts to convince me that this stuff is elementary and I should do it myself will be promptly cursed at (under my breath, but scathingly). Yup.
