5watts is a light trickle charge.
That panel will only be putting out full power in full overhead sun.
It will then be producing less than 1/2 an amp.
Overcharging is a very unlikely possibility.

No controller really needed. You're good.

It might save you a few minutes of work every time you would have gone out to hook up the 100.
See how it works before giving up on it.
Could get a bit more life out of the batt till you start putting on the miles.

Those have been around for years and the idea was a good one. Our own expert did the numbers for inside our windows. The issue is longevity, will be good enough for a while.

I had the same longevity question when “a guy I know” started doing them at Cascadia. Before they built winch front plate hinge systems as front plates are mandatory in BC. Now they build vehicle specific chargers for mining trucks and the trucks mine workers drive to mines. 80 watt up to 150 I think is the biggest. Cool product idea. I have never used on personally but I have a few friends that have bought them and they’re happy. Not cheap but good vehicle specific stuff rarely is. Nice useless location to pull solar from. Here is a link.

Need to get it installed before the trip west for my sister’s wedding

thinking about it my rich solar controller has dc load outlet that will turn current on/off at sunrise/set,not sure if it has a charging algorithm but might get it to charge the starter battery if the correct buttons are pushed

I have a load output on my controller too , but haven't had time to explore using it in different ways .
Just got it working and got back to the wood rot and extra insulation ....can of worms
