I would choose a mechanical sensor if available, and wire in an override switch no matter what sensor or controller you choose, in case that sensor fails.
ordered some stuff from amazon this morn, every time i log in it makes me do the verification email and then they auto sign me up for prime so i have to go back and cancel, money hungry they are

Edit to add: My fan clutch is engaged when first started cold. It takes about a minute before it lets go and acts normal.

My fan is the same, after a minute warming up it kicks off. My mileage is in the 14 to 15 range but drops to 11 or 12 pulling my little trailer.

didnt know that, this has been an ongoing thing, first noticed it while doing a tune up with the dog house off a while ago

still just checking things out but when you are getting 10mpg picking up one or two is picking up one or two
I'd do the electric fan thing too if i knew it was good for at least 1mpg hwy. Heck even 0.5mpg.

When's the last ti.e you git your engine oil. To full temp. Based on pressure it takes.my 318 no less than 15 minutes at 65mph.  Could take tht much time or more.for.fan clutch silicone to get as hot as it gets.
Could be time for an Italian tune up gary. Take it out let it do 65mpg for a while. Then, drive it like you stole it.
It's a sbc ,ffs. They get grumpy with a feather foot  loose nut behind the wheel.

it depends on the style of fan,a disengaged clutch fan will eat up 2-5 hp but when it locks which should only happen idling in traffic 20-30 hp

electric fans draw 20+ amps so...

all should not be "on" while moving, the air flow from moving should be enough to keep the engine cool if not there is an issue with your cooling system or you need an upgrade

when the clutch fan engages you know it,sounds like a jet engine, quite loud and you will feel the rpm's go down

motor trend engine masters did a fan comparison vid which is now locked behind a subscribe wall and one style, flex fan? took like 40 hp from the engine

$45 vs $300 to gain 5 hp and a little mpg???

the van gets warmed up every week or so and drive every month and of coarse i got to blow the carbon out, damn thing will almost lift the front tires from a start, surprises people with it's get up and go but with 4-10 and no o/d 60 mph is more rpm than you would like, anyone want to buy me a th700r?

These big engine fans move a lot of air thru a lot of resistance, and yes, they do take a bunch of HP to do that.

Most semis have a three stage engine brake (or jake brake) but some of them have a fourth stage. Guess what the fourth stage is?

Turning on the engine fan. (some to them do this automatically in stage three if the rpm is not dropping). At high RPM the large engine fan in a class 8 semi is good for 80-100 brake horsepower.

Every little bit helps when that heavy load is pushing you down a long steep grade.
