100 watt panel, on windshield vs behind it.

The 50% reduction is a lot, hardly makes it worthwhile. Those flex panels aren't cheap.
Ive thought about a 20-25W framed panel on the dash but now maybe not.

Theres just no good secure alternative if you don't want a roof mount it seems.

The sunpower bendable panels are certainly not as cheap as some other flex panels.

50% reduction is huge, but 43 watts is still appreciated.

I've not finished my thin wooden panel frame or devised an easy storage mount system for the panel. I don't enjoy parking facing south in my regular spot as much as I do facing north, and my battery is at end of days and I'm not much concerned with it reaching top charge asap as often as possible, as perfect treatment at this point is not going to do much to extend its lifespan further.

I bought new windshield wipers that offset the blades up a bit higher in the rested position,, and would make shadowing the bottom row of cells a bigger concern.

I would place two big square solar panels inside the front windshield of my Motorhome if I find some panels that fit reasonably well. Maybe I’d get 100 watts or so which would help. I think I’d try a simple strap holding them up for starters.
I’m appreciating more and more what a challenge it is to get much solar on a vehicle. The available technology, prices, and roof layout are still hindering optimal design in a major way. We need 50% efficient panels. I think NASA has them. Are they holding out on us. Oh, here comes a potential conspiracy theory.

A quick online search found reference to Gallium arsenide solar panels reaching efficiency of 38% or 46% with concentrated light.

Patriot. Sounds like your system will be powerful. I’m curious to hear more about how it goes. I tried a battery equalizer on my 24 volt strings. I may get a year or two more life from the batteries with this.
