A home converted electric car

And I'm not sure what the guy in the first post is up to-
You can't use juice to run something to run something else that puts the juice back in ...

Well. all one needs to do is defy the rules of physics in that regard.
Plenty of those who claim that ability out there, and plenty of people who believe them, because they want to.

Interesting post. I have seen first hand the devastation our 'consuming devil may care' society has had on places in the world people don't go to. Hell, I am responsible for companies like Firestone, still being able to operate without control in Liberia. While this is a private company I postponed my first van plans in 2015 and invested my vehicle fund with an investment group fund that managed to get in on this at the ground level.

I am crossing my fingers it works as it was an all my eggs in on basket thing and something I felt needed to be made a reality. Bigger money followed as this article outlines and that made me feel good about my little money.

The issue is my forever stupid circle. Doing the same thing and expecting different results is stupid. We are heating up the planet. How we are doing it and what is causing more of it is great questions for researchers. But it is a fact. Perhaps it is a natural cycle that we are speeding up. Ok, I'll buy that argument too. But does it really matter? Electric cars are great. But we have 50 million regular cars. Is it likely we will swap all those for electric before 2025? Not really. Monkies grab the low-hanging easy or cheap fruit. It is what monkies do. Fuel is what it is, low hanging fruit. So make it carbon neutral and try to fix the stuff we can. Before we can't. I spent many years living in the valley of LA. I remember mmm tastes like it is going to be a nice day today.

Yep...

My thought is that maybe he has rigged up a relay or something, so that when the brakes are applied, that second alternator, powered by the coasting vehicle and drivetrain, dumps all available amperage (as the vehicle slows) into the battery bank.

Call it a 'poor-mans' regenerative braking. It would in fact place a 'load' on the engine. As long as the clutch is still engaged, it should be able to produce some 'drag'. Hybrid trucks work in a similar way.

It's possible the reporter missed this, or the guy didn't explain it...or maybe I'm off in left field and he really HAS figured out a way to cheat physics.

But I doubt it.

I was wondering about that- The writer misunderstood and mixed up charging when static vs running, I think.
It seemed he hadn't really tested it, or was unable to for some reason.

We have two E Trucks that run on GCs for work around the farm.
Their performance isn't very good, and batteries produce so many amps that posts will literally melt off.

I'd also have no idea where to get a 71 hp motor.

This is why I would like to see on the fly hydrogen conversions for our existing vehicles.  I think that's a better solution than electric.

Handy-Dan, have you seen the hydrogen system really work?

I have seen three Hydrogen generators installed and working on sailboats. Runs a few cubic meters of fridges and some electronics critical to sailing. Main power is still Solar and generator. But this is a backup long-term set and forget system for periods of no sun and automated. You can rig an autostart on a generator but making it safe to work via Ai is expensive and not skookum or boat smart. The small hydrogen generator is quite safe and nearly silent. Not great efficiency numbers and yes methanol is explosive but in the system, it is very safe.

The above links were for a system that pulls CO2 from atmospheric gases kind of like they do now for Liquid Oxygen or Liquid Nitrogen harvesting and converts it into a fuel that can be re-burned in commercially available vehicles. Not carbon Negative but closer to carbon neutral than many alternatives. I think, and am betting all my magic beans, this technology takes off and goes into production. Or alternatively gets bought by a huge company for an obscene amount of money and gets shelved alongside fission generators. I don't have children and the catastrophic period doesn't start till I'll be pooping in diapers and drooling on my nappy! I am such a cynic...

Thank you.

Cynic or clear-sighted?
