I remember HD’s posts (some of them) from the old site, he definately was “swimming upstream”...
If someone cannot afford to purchase a decent battery and has access to junkyard or service station castoffs, doesn't mind pulling dead batteries out and switching them time after time, then go for it. There’s a reason that Wallyworld sells a $49 one year guarantee battery and also sells a $130 five year guarantee battery... and it’s not just for more profit. It’s like most anything else, you can have quality or price, pick one. Every five and dime store purchase (ok now its the Dollar stores) is a cheap item that 90% of the time will soon break. HF tools, like the open end wrenches from India years ago, for the most part aren’t going to last like a better brand, but sometimes the cheapo thing is either all you can afford or all you need for a particular job. I’d love to be able to reconstitute dead batteries with baking soda and an overcharge then get 5 more trouble-free years out of them, however thats a pipe dream (who smokes a pipe anymore?). If a person wants to post counter-culture mechanical or electrical opinions, just post them as “this is what I do” and don’t tell others to follow suit. Maybe some people actually enjoy sauna-like vans with no ventilation, after all, there’s no chance of a roof leak if there’s no vent cut into the roof. Plus, having nothing but the steel roof showing in your cargo van gives new meaning to “counting sheep” to go to sleep, instead it’s counting drops that condense and fall...

Denying that you are Offgrid 24/7 from the other forum and thinking you are believed, is delusional. I suspected it was you in your initial post, and was hoping I was wrong.
Same delusional opinions which defy physics, same writing style and your avatar even reveals the same brown extended length early to mid 80's Dodge van. If you were hoping to not be recognized, then you insult everybody with a memory. You did give me some good advice once regarding some undesirable who kept bothering me, although I did not need to employ it. I respect experience and my elders, but I see too many instances of elders being so set in their ways and doubling down on false beliefs. Behaving as if that what they were told 50 years ago, is even more true today. I have many freinds in their 60's to 80's, and with few exceptions, whatever they learned in their younger years is stated as absolute irrefutable fact, when it is utterly false and easily disproven, but they are my friends and i don't bother arguing, their minds cannot be changed. There is no point in it, their false beliefs are of no consequence to me, unless somebody else makes important decisions based on their 'alternative facts' and alternative reality. However, that is not true of online forums, Some newb might actually believe that they too can defy physics and reality with desire and faith. Saying Insulation does not work, Implying that you can get 40% more MPG than your vehicle actually can downhill with a hurricane force tailwind, that lead acid batteries can last years and years never ever getting a full charge, that a swamp cooler woks just as well as an actual compressor driven air conditioner, even in high humidity, well I can't figure your motives for doing this other than to troll, and fulfill some need to stroke your own ego.

I don’t understand your second sentence. Shoddy? You can just drop in a battery, or you can take the time to do it properly.

I'm thinking he meant that IF the work was shoddy, you know who to blame.
