Since I retired, I have had five job offers...one guy was particularly insistent that I needed to come out of retirement and drive one of his trucks...kept telling me about all the 'perks' driving for him: Regional, home weekends, no hazmat, no e-log, rider and pet policy, able to take the truck home, etc etc...

I finally had to tell him I simply am not interested. Period.

Point is, the industry is hurting for good drivers....so if you can stick with it, you can make some good money eventually.

If you can get about 2 to 3 years of experience, and keep your CDL and work history in good shape, you can start to focus on better driving jobs, and that usually means regional private carriers, or dedicated. Those jobs tend to have better pay and benefits, and a good balance between miles and home time.

It's a big adjustment, so get ready for some reality that will slap you upside the head....

Cool

Welcome!

Gotta hand it to anyone that can drive a thing of that size- Had to drive one few miles (Mechanics license) and my sphincter was clenched so tight, it made diamonds! Heck no!

Since, I admire anyone who can navigate around the city with one of those.

Good thing for people that work is where the economy is at in this cycle- employers begging for employees.
And hounding the good ones.

K&B and Covenant keeps contacting me. Never drove for either one and somehow they don't understand that I'm retired. Thankfully Heartland and Schneider have finally quit contacting me. My old outfit Riverside did contact me once after about a year of being retired and wanted me pull a load from, well I forget where. I had to remind them I was retired as well. My old dispatcher just laughed and said "yeah... wanna come back?" It was tempting. I still bleed diesel....
