GPS formats
#1
I have a new Garmin. Nuvi 2597

It does not provide a gps coordinate format

Nnn.nnnnnn

Notice the 6 digits after the decimal point.

  Only.   Nnn.nnnnn. (5) digits.

How do I convert?

The final digit is insignificant.

If you are entering a lat or long, simply ignore the last digit.

In other words, 101.123456 printed on a website

is the same value as 101.12345 entered in your GPS.

BTW, that last digit, digit number 6, adds the last 18 inches of location precision...generally not needed for most of us just trying to find a nice campsite.

I don't think many normal GPS units that we buy off the shelf and use for driving can even operate at that level of precision.

What Tx2 said. Only Gunny and I are interested in tighter grid references.
