Ground Beef in a can?
#1
Has anyone every tried ground beef in a can?   I just came across it.  It only has two ingredients, beef and salt so how bad can it be, right?

Seems like a good way to travel with food if you don't have refrigeration and wouldn't be bad to have a case on hand in a sticks and bricks either should you ever need a temporary supply of food.

I've had the BBQ pulled pork and chicken in a can and while not as good as I can make myself, I will definitely have them onhand in the van when I go full time. ThriveMarket.com has some meat in a can options as well, but it's a subscription site.

I have been getting Keystone brand - ground beef, beef, pork and chicken - via Amazon Prime. A bit pricey, but one can can make two or three meals (more with larger cans) added to other cheap ingredients. It does have a lot of congealed grease in the can though.
As I am in Hurricane Territory, it's a part of my storm preps. It'll keep in LTS for a good bit of time.

In Russia the can beef you!

Sorry Soviet era joke. It is actually very common here. We have lots of fresh, as in the guy with the axe and tree stump in the market; "this was my favorite steer Yuri, he was 2 years 19 days and will taste very good." Funny thing after three years they are all his favorites. I called him on it and he said; "I love all my sons." Ok, so yeah that is fresh, he even posts the medical record for you to read if you can read that kind of stuff. I can say Steroids and antibiotics. Usually he says no, but one day he said yes "Pasha got a cold and was miserable, snot, coughing, I felt sorry for him. Gave him shot cleared right up. Over a year ago no problem."

So while we have fresh, and then supermarket style, we also have a ton of meat in cans. I have tried a couple, reminds me of dog food, but taste ok on a bun. I thought in a pinch we could eat it cold and as we are 100 electric I put some in the bad day box.

Haven't had ground beef in a can, but at a lot of canned bacon when we lived overseas. It looked utterly disgusting coming out of the can, but it cooked up pretty tasty.

Atlantic Herring fish heads in a can!! Luxury!!!
One has to be careful not to eat Trigger.

But truth is. Sorry Canada and America roll significantly behind in quality, price and healthy in regards to food. Outside of Moscow. But Moscow isn't Russia.

Here almost everything is organic, very little imports as per sanctions and no one buys turkish meat or...SO meat is sourced local. Some fruits are imported but lots local as we are not far from Sochi. It is tropical. Vegetables are plenty, as is fruit but seasonal so get it when it is in stock. Lots of local fish and other seafood. You can buy directly off the boat and save 20% is you negotiate well. I got a guy here five pounds of big Tiger prawns about 8 bucks USD caught and flash froze on the boat. 3 pounds of local organic apples 1 buck. Watermelon less than a buck for 15 pounder. A liter (think 26)  of good vodka is 8 bucks. Beef and Pork organic is around 2 bucks a pound, fresh horse is actually more. Putin banned growing most GMO foods last year, and significantly hampers imports of GMO foods. Russians won't buy it if it is imported. A beer, under 3%, while pregnant no biggy but a GMO orange to my children's table NEVER. Ah beer .75% Kvaz served to anyone, sold street side during the summer, made from wheat and tastes like sweet malt beer. 2.5 to 4.5 light beer, 4.5 to 8 regular beer. 8 to 11.75 strong beer.

I just came home from the store 2 pints of cream, a half pound of butter 87.5 butter fat, Two big containers of Cottage cheese. A half pound each of cheddar, Swiss, and mozzarella cheese. Two containers of eggs, cartons have ten eggs not twelve (metric system). Two pints of Sour Cream 30% milk fat. Twenty beef smokies. 3 3o ounce bottles of sparkling mineral water (natural). Two cooked chickens say around 8 pounds for the pair, 3 pounds of broccoli, a big cabbage, and coffee. Around 18 bucks total. I don't clip coupons or look for sales. Just my usual stores where the locals know me and help so I don't make an opps.

Here in the U.S., a newborn baby has more than 200 foreign chemicals in his body. And then we wonder where all the autism, A.D.D., A.D.H.D., obesity, cancer, asthma, diabetes, thyroid problems, prostate problems, depression, Alzheimer's, dementia, allergies, etc, come from. Spontaneous generation?

I was recently reading that doctors don't cure anything, they just treat the symptoms. I also wasn't surprised to read that the average doctor going to medical school only gets 25 HOURS of education in nutrition. The average American lives to be 75 years old; the average American doctor only lives to be 65.

One thing I have found after having eaten canned meat for years from many different companies is that no canned meat tastes like good fresh meat. There is always a sortof "processed" taste. Some folks find it objectionable, but to me it's just different.

If you look into 'case ready meat' you will find out there is no truly fresh meat in most grocery stores.
I'm not lost. I'm exploring.
