THE REALITY OF LIVING OFF GRID

BTW the left-over buffalo jerky was pretty good.

Cool

I never forget a face. I have only met you once in the desert. LOL

We have only had two guests in all the time anyone one of us have been there. A SAR team looking for a lost Geologist. One hunter from the nearby town. His wife makes awesome blueberry pies. Doesn't mean others haven't wandered by.
The trapper's tent has been scavenged of gear on one or two occasions.

The 'strings' on the tunnel and around the tunnel have never been tripped. I grew up watching Indiana Jones. One of the hikers is a mechanical engineer grad from UBC. We got countermeasures. LOL

I learn that the best way to do anything is to do it yourself... even if you get it wrong you learn a great deal.

Also, make sure you have good roadside coverage. For a while in 2017 I was basically towed everywhere I went. The tow company told me once...before I set out..just give them a call, they are going to end up taking me there anyway so give them a heads up. GoodSam’s was awful about finding a towing service, but totally great at reimbursement for my out of pocket when I found them. It’s not so much a road side service as a roadside reimbursement plan.

And, finally, verify every detail. My failure to check and double check work could have been fatal.

I planned to launch in June of 2017...I didn’t launch until thanksgiving 2017. Slept on spare sofas, car, cheap motels, etc. made my plans to launch, then when it didn’t happen, I was left beggin a bed and shelter to myself and smidge. Not fun.

So...don’t do this without resources. Knowledge, tools, and the ability to pay for essential work.

Ha ha, that caused a real laughing fit: “The tow company told me once...before I set out..just give them a call, they are going to end up taking me there anyway so give them a heads up. GoodSam’s was awful about finding a towing service, but totally great at reimbursement for my out of pocket when I found them.”

Pray tell how GS was willing to tow when you were off-pavement, or were you not?  I’ve read that AAA and others won’t tow or even help if there’s a piece of gravel, sand or dirt on the road... basically...

So you’d recommend GS over the other options? (Mainly AAA RV)

Thanks

In every case where I was towed via the same company...in grand Junction, etc....exactly where I was; how far off the road, how far from pavement, never came up.    In the case of being towed out of the sand in Wellton...the tow operator simply didn’t submit anything concerning distance from the payment.    He did so without my asking him.

I am sure if I was deep in the BLM at Ehrenburg it would have been a completely different story.

AAA stranded me so many times...on interstates!  They pay so low that I found many operators will not work with them..so there are huge areas where they cannot find anyone to help you!   I was saved by the state police on south bound I95 in S. Carolina!  The tow company was only 7 miles away..but AAA was going to leave me.  Then they refused to reimburse.   Got rid of them.    GoodSam’s seemed to have trouble finding operators in remote locations...but didn’t even delay to send me reimbursement.

The health monster strikes.

Health care is one of the hardest things to find. There are plenty of practicing medical advisors, but few that have enough guts to be honest with the person in front of them. Especially when they do not have a clue. I had one person tell me i was going to lose a leg, and several others misdiagnosed simple problems.

The worst is the way others treat me because my problems are not obvious. I have Spinabifida, and at my age the related damage is compound. I have three slipped discs with herniated and pinched nerves. I can not walk in a straight line. Insurance companies have a mandatory tourture system to get things done. All told with a health plan that covers me in most places will be about 25% of my income. Plus deductibles. Six months ago I stepped on a rock and since then I am unable to walk in a straight line. I have a high pain tolerance so I can keep on moving. Following a thought is harder.  I hate brain farts. Anyway
Being unable to do things really sucks. If the pain doesn’t stop me, a brain fart does.

Until I get the disc pain under control, driveing is out of the question. Good thing I have satellite maps that USUALLY tell me if I am on the road. Brain farts be dammed.

I really hate being lied to, and to have a machine do it is worse

I hope that I covered what I meant to in this post. But I am afraid that I missed it. I have been fighting the automated misunderstanding google on drugs corrections system.

Today I tried to do a simple change of address form through social security. 5 1/2 hours later, seven dropped calls and one grumpy ass operator later I have to make a one hour trip to get a simple detail done. America needs a road trip to mellow out.

What really sucks is going to a buffet and knowing that you can only manage one plate.

i'm going to get me one of those teeter hang ups and give it a try,i see problems with the design though,it hooks on to your feet which means my ankles, knees and hips need to dislocate before anything reaches my back, need something to go around your hips to avoid that
