CRVL Forum down for a few days
#91
So, Bob's site is down, has been for a while?
And the feet be dragging getting it back up?

Strange. Seems there'd be some amount of ad revenue in that site.

Not the whole site, just the forum.

BW does not have the time to control the strict dialogue or the ideology of his forum now that his long winded tuber flicks are bringing in a grand a week.

There could be a million reasons from mechanical failure and no redundant server to no back ups and a crash to making code modifications with no sandbox to attack’s on the server. I’m not going to speculate. I have no idea who he uses for his hosting.

From a business point of view, being down for this long is a mess, but CRVL is not Amazon. He will survive, my guess is that the forum isn’t a financial boost to his business, but his amazon affiliate sales and YouTube are.

I appreciate Bob Wells and all he has done. He may rub people the wrong way with his way of selling this lifestyle, but he has saved me thousands of dollars, as I attended the seminars in 2017 and learned a lot about boondocking. After that RTR I never paid for a RV Park again. In 2018 I wanted to pay forward my thanks for what I learned at the RTR so I volunteered to help.

Hopefully he gets it back up and running soon. His board is too big for me. I like this small and quiet one.

Since CRVL was kinda' the "first" of these forums/blogs/video self-help homebrew rv things, it did assist me. I haunted the electrical forums, learned what "red" and "black" were (ha ha) and spent a lot of time getting ideas. Have I put any of them into use, not really, but the information I gleaned is mostly still in my cluttered mind.

I left due to their mods, not Bob.

Any forum with thousands of posters will degenerate and become a monster, I believe thats what happened there. I figured it had gotten so out of control/bounds that he shut it down to do some major pruning or something. Maybe he didn't but it needed it!

The first wave of posters here pruned themselves. I am sure that he was happy to see us leave.

Personally I do not agree with everything that he does, but thousands have been helped. I seriously believe that here we are more realistic about dwelling. I refuse to publicly cut him down as I believe he had the best of intentions.

I also think his intentions were good, initially. In my mind he has done a major disservice to Vandweller’s by promoting it so well, He has also done himself a disservice by elevating himself as the Messiah, it looks to me that it has turned into being all about ego and money now, which is understandable as that was accidental and he is only walking through open doors so who can fault him. It is not exactly what he had set out to be, he finds himself in a similar prison he advocated getting out of in the first place, unfortunately now he is famous, I feel sorry for him it must be hard being a celebrity, unfortunately if or when a melt down occurs it will likely be public as well. It must be cluttered and stressful in his van he is a very busy man.

Interesting perspective kurbmaster. Bob has become so famous that it seems like he is creating a prison he once wanted out of.
I dont have anything against him, he has helped so many for free. The money from YouTube, who knows, his mother could have medical bills he’s helping with, it could be going out to salaries, he could be raising capital for an even bigger venture, he once floated the idea of a non-profit foundation. I don't think he’s sitting in his van with dollar signs in his eyes as it comes in.

Who knows, just speculating.

Encouraging people without an actual assessment via a licensed social worker of their life skills and their ability to live without the support of a social welfare safety net is not inspiration but assisted suicide.
