Well put Sir.
When I was in my early teens. I had a run of bad luck. Except it wasn't luck it was all brought on me by action, inaction, and perception. Doing the moody teenager bullshit. My father came home from work, tired, he was always tired. I was pulling wrenches on my 1600 Datsun Sportster and needed help getting one of the side mounted carbs off. He was too tired. All my friends had fathers much younger, in fact I had a brother older than some of my friends fathers. I got a little pissy.
"Spray it with BreakFree and then come inside I want to show you something." He said disappearing into the house.
I did that and then tossed a cover over the dead motor and cleaned up, as I knew dinner would hit the table 15 minutes after he got home. Like clockwork or a German trains. Dinner was always 15 minutes after dad walked in the door. It was a hot summer evening and Dad was playing with the fancy new VCR. "I got these tapes from National Geographic I want you to watch this one." Mom, brought my dinner in and carried Dad's outside to the rear deck. Confused I got up and went to the deck.
"You're not going to watch?" I asked.
"I can't. I was there with your two uncles. Only; I came home. So when you think you're having a bad day, and the life isn't fair, I want you to remember your two Uncle's bad day. They weren't much older than you. Now go watch."
It was archive footage of the Dieppe landing...
I've only had seven bad days since then, and one of them was holding his hand as he passed.
Perspective, the soul-less evil red head, or the sultry red headed temptress. All perspective, and we control, one of the few things we do control, that perspective.
