If victron says not a good idea, mount the controller on the firewall inside and run the wires outside like a normal install. I just connect a 10 watt panel through a cheap 3 amp pwm controller to my starting battery. I just use those little cheap battery clamps from the controller to the battery. When leaving, unplug (SAE connector) panel from controller and remove clamps from battery. I store it in passenger foot well. I put the panel on my windshield wiper.
