Yeah, I figured you guys are still figuring out the pedals and steering wheel...dome lights are the least of your worries.
I'm just inserting them as images I clip and copy from a site called ADVrider.com...it's essentially stealing a bit of bandwidth from them. It's a huge adventure motorcycle site that has 300,000 members! I was a mod there and have been a member for 10 years, so I don't have a problem doing it myself, but I wouldn't feel right about lots of people here doing it.
When the time come the mods or whoever can figure out if any of them are worth saving to the Smilies tool here. They're not Copyright or anything so there's no problem there. There's another board I'm on that has a bunch. Many are the same as the ADV ones above, but they have a big handful of additional ones that are pretty cool. They're behind a security wall though, so I can't just link to them like the ones above, but I could certainly copy the files and offer them up.
One of the ways both boards developed their smilie lists is people came in with favorites from other places and started using them like I have been here. Sometimes they'd use a favorite often enough that the mods added it to the list and named it after that person.
This one is Queens
and the shortcut to get it to appear is :queenie . This one
is :lurk . Queen mentioned :baldy
and :vardy
...two of my favorites as well... :vardy because I live in Montana. The ones I used most often were :wave
and :thumb I also liked :patch
, :bluduh
, and :eek7
.It doesn't take long before you've memorized the names of your favorite smilies and just type them in rather than picking them from the menu.
I DO NOT want to be a mod here, BTDT, but I'd happily volunteer to work on the smilies. Start with a good set of maybe 30 basics---I know what gets used---and then let it evolve. I'm pretty good with computer stuff and don't think I'd break anything. Lemme know.
