I camped in a truck with a cap for two weeks some years ago while I was taking some shooting classes in NH.
You definitely don't live IN such a rig, you live OUT of this setup.
And I am certainly no longer young enough/limber enough to do it again.
For some people who pull trailers, this works for good, inexpensive, weatherproof storage. And by moving the stored items to the trailer, and shifting your mattress and bedding to the back of the truck, you could take the occasional overnight trip into the back country where you couldn't pull the trailer.
But I wouldn't try to live full time in such a set up. Then again, some people live full time in passenger cars . . .
