So...Im still debating on what to do with my truck bed space. Either cap it or truck camper. TC would be recreational so a cap seems like a better use for my bed.
Instead of looking for a typical boring topper, was looking at AREs different styles. Saw this one
Im not sure how practical it would be. Dont know anyone with one. Also...my truck is bronze...idk who could get a matching color...but maybe a 2nd color thatd go good with it?
Help me. Ive fallen and I cant get up.

. . . Im not sure how practical it would be. Dont know anyone with one.
I camped in a truck with a cap for two weeks some years ago while I was taking some shooting classes in NH.
You definitely don't live IN such a rig, you live OUT of this setup.
And I am certainly no longer young enough/limber enough to do it again.
For some people who pull trailers, this works for good, inexpensive, weatherproof storage. And by moving the stored items to the trailer, and shifting your mattress and bedding to the back of the truck, you could take the occasional overnight trip into the back country where you couldn't pull the trailer.
But I wouldn't try to live full time in such a set up. Then again, some people live full time in passenger cars . . .

John
I don't like to make advance plans. It causes the word PREMEDITATED get thrown around in the courtroom!

Leer and ARE can color match your paint...of course that will cost extra. Or a standard black color might look good on your truck.
And yes, you can have them clamped OR bolted down.
If you need maximum space go with a high rise, either fiberglass or commercial aluminum.
I just bought an ARE high-rise commercial topper for my 8 foot bed...its very roomy...it has more usable room inside than my van did....hard to believe but it's true.
The commercial ones from ARE are available in a variety of heights, with slope or square or wedge shapes, and interior framing which is VERY nice when it comes to hanging and mounting cabinets and shelves inside, and running wiring.
You can also add a variety of racks on top, I chose the simple ladder rack for mounting solar panels.

As I said, mine is bronze. So I wouldnt mind paying extra to match. Not sure black would look good...especially that long.
When ordering, would I have to add that Id want it clamped?
If you dont mind me asking.. How much did that set you back? Ive seen some estimates, but not recent. I dont mind paying for it, just need to make sure I know how much to set aside. Thanks.

This white ARE DCU topper, custom made to my specs, in Indiana for this 2017 Nissan Titan XD, and shipped to Texas, with tinted slider windows, no tool boxes, acrylic lining, 36" high, wedge shape, ladder rack, 1/2 door, tax, installation, out the door with 3 year warranty was about $2700.
Not cheap....but worth every penny for exactly what I wanted.
The standard high rise fiberglass tops are in the $2000 range, I'm guessing that custom paint will add $500 to that, but it's just a guess based on other items I have priced recently.

That is quite large. My 150qt cooler looks tiny compared to my bed size.
I was most interested in the door on back for quick access...just unsure of quality. If itd be better to keep the tailgate for extra length or additional space for table top usage, I may just go with a standard topper. But I like yours alot. Not sure Id add anything on top of it.
