Using Reflectix under bedding
#21
Rather than endure all the crackling, I think I'd make my own bottom sheet out of heat reflective fabric. Spendier, but would last longer.

Here's one brand - http://www.energyefficientsolutions.com/...Fabric.asp

I wasn't aware that such a thing existed. A very good tip! Thank you!

Finally got around to doing a partial analysis, and it wasn't strong either way (bad or good).

Next, I checked CRVL for a "jacqueg", and found that name in use by somebody very with it who I personally had upvoted. Smile

So, "jacqueg" if you're that person, my apologies, you're a genuinely helpful person and I hope you post much more! Smile
Please humor me, and send a brief PM from your CRVL account to the CRVL account of one of the regulars here (or me, my account there has the same username as here, though I have not yet posted there).

If you do some searching here, there have been cases of disgruntled trolls, plus, I'm a Professionally-trained Paranoid (i.e. a cybersecurity engineer), so I tend to err on the side of caution. Smile

So the Relectix needs to be close enough to the body to radiate the heat back?
A 3" memory foam over it would prevent that?
Is Reflectix better than Mylar Blankets? Or is that the same thing?
Thanks

I don't think body heat would get through the foam to reach the Reflectix, much less be able to reflect it back.  I just put the Reflectix under a thin mattress cover.

Reflectix is a layer of small bubblepak between two layers of mylar. There are also tarps laminated to mylar, called emergency blankets, but I've never tried one of them.

Lambs wool is cozy. If you can tolerate wool use a layer of wool under you over the reflectix. I sleep with a stocking cap or a hoodie on my head. Heat loss through the head and feet... wool socks. I also have an electric hot water bottle. Wow. That is nice. It stays warm nearly all night but for now I do have electric so it can be charged up. It charges in about 10 - 15 minutes. I haven’t tried doing it with the generator. I’m thinking the water bottle is 500 watts. Couldn’t do it on solar. I also stuff a piece of reflectix by the door. All kinds of air leaks through the doors. My bed has slats for ventilation but I put a moving blanket under that and drape it so that ventilated air doesn’t come up and fan me with a breeze in the coldest part of the night.
I'm not lost. I'm exploring.

Been researching all this and learning a lot. Thanks for educating me!

Yeah wool is itchy but maybe a sheet over it might work. I do have a full head cover that only has opening for the eyes that I plan to use as needed. And have plenty of warm socks to rotate out.

I don't have power YET. But will as soon as I decide which way to go.

I would think it would depend on where the moisture was coming from.  The floor?  The air?  The person's sweat?
...bed wetting? lol...JJK..Couldn't resist.
