Kaylee, it sounds like a very thorough job to make your van as roadworthy as possible. You spent a chunk of change but I think it's well spent. And you were magnificent in the face of adversity!

Kaylee- I admire your patience as well. At least that shop was equipped and able to rebuild the heads themselves. Many shops don't do that anymore. They buy wholesale from some place that rebuilds them. Then you end up with heads that there is no telling where they came from. I'm most likely going to have to rebuild the heads on my shuttle bus diesel engine. David

Thanks guys!
Yesterday, successfully (albeit very nervously) drove to just outside Minneapolis. I cringed at every snap-crackle-pop, but otherwise was uneventful. #phew

With a new top end on the motor, it should last another 100,000 miles.

Good, you got some mileage on it. Oil consumption ok?

You just had maintenance done that many older motors probably require.
Like John said half of your motor is up to date & done.
(GARY did a lot of that to his rig just for peace of mind. I probably should too.)
It did cost you but it's a done listing in your maint log now. So enjoy those miles with a big smile.......... Wink
stay tuned

Good to see you back on the road, Kaylee.
People that are loving and affectionate are like delicate flowers, if you don't show them love in return and nurture them daily, they will build up a wall between you and eventually you will lose their love and trust.

Thanks all!

I just got to Rhinelander WI, and will probably stay the night.

FI "felt" much more natural today. We're getting back in "tune" with each other. :-)

Did need a quart of oil today (about an hour ago).
What brand of oil do you folks recommend?
Is Walmart's house brand OK?
Is it worth it to buy the "high mileage" stuff?
When I bought the 5 quart thing a couple weeks ago, I went with QuakerState(?) high-mileage,but if it's likely to burn steadily, maybe house brand is OK?
