What Do I Need.
#21
I use Verizon. They advised me that I can tether to either my phone with a 15 gig cap on high speed, and of course my mifi with the same cap. I often wonder if they are hosing me on getting the full 15 gig, as they seem to always send notice about two thirds into the billing cycle that I have used up all my high speed data? I do a lot of surfing, minimal youtube, but have a big presence on a photographic forum. Every time you open an image, your PC has to download it first to view it. This is data use, and I do a lot of viewing and posting.
I'm also suspicious of the amount of data opening a gif consumes?
I mis-spoke myself earlier, because what I experienced was if somebody sent me a text with an image, I had to hang up to receive the image. Cammy, you should be aware of that, as we've had that conversation before. To me, text equals data, so that's where my assumption about internet came from. I may have had that partially wrong.

Generally speaking: voice, and text, are not data, but if you send an image via text then that IS data.

SMS (text only) is not using data.

MMS (images or videos) sent via a text message is using data.

Well that was the confusing part then.

As I read back thru this thread I see where some confusion is coming from, some of it due to my postings.

In my articles, the word 'unlimited' refers to data use.

The words 'not restricted' do not refer to amount of data, but that something is allowed or not allowed, like tethering.

Again...hazy and confusing topic....

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I was on ATT and got good signals in the desert and didn't hit my data cap of 22 gig until I was downloading movies to watch on the flight over. Got close and so I moved to wifi connection to finish. Two seasons of Justified in hi-def. LOL! I got calls without an issue while tethered and downloading. I can geek and freak with the best of them. Half my internet BBS buddies went to jail or disappeared to work with alphabet agencies. But with my ipad mac and iPhone 5, I don't have to. Stuff is pricey trust me my next item on the wish list is a loaded out iMac pro in black can you say monster! Also runs in at close to 11 grand!! But what it can do hasn't been thought of yet! Till then it is my five-year-old and eight-year-old MacBook Pros and this shiny Russian red (rose) gold iPad 256gig. Someone just push the easy button already.

The other thing you can do is pull the signal to your phone and mirror it to your smart tv! No tethering required and hello big screen. I did that today with some videos I shot in the desert. A few of the YARCS are now famous in Ukraine

Cammila. From the main icon, screen swipe your finger up from the bottom. You should see a utility menu Connection types on the left music on the right sound brightness below that. On the left halfway down is an icon screen mirroring. Push it and it will find an apple tv connection anyplace you find yourself. Some smart tv's are compatible out of the box, other can be made to work or you just get the 100 apple tv box.
