Simple hot Water Systems
#11
This is a great topic! I was looking into options just this past weekend. I am pretty sure I will end up with an rv propane water heater. However it is nice to see there are other options out there.

I'm thinking a type of copper coils that could be set in a pot of water or some sort of tank. Then the water would be heated as it passes through. I could then use my coleman stove. Only the part that goes into the heating pot would be copper. Maybe have some sort of temp gauge on it.
Speaking of showers...I hope JBird doesn't mind...but I have an idea to cut hole in floor of van/bus etc and inset a metal box/ pan with a drain. I could then place a wood floor cover over it when not in use. I'm thinking this would be better than placing a pan on top of the floor. IDK..brain storming through cobwebs. lol.

I like your shower idea.  The sink in my Aliner just drains on to the ground or uses a piece of waterhose to get it                         draining out from under the trailer.

I agree. Even the mud puddle water can be filtered. But I think I'd need a hazmat suit and gear ro enter a public shower. LOL  Cool

Hey...maybe if I put on a hazmat suit that had the boots attached and then taped the cuffs I could fill it full of water with me in it..Then with my body heat it would warm the water..add liquid soap...run around van a few times to agitate...Presto..clean me and did some laundry at same time !! Just Kidding. I have an very creative side that frankly sometimes scares even me. LOL

LOL...The thread was "hanging by a thread" ,,it needed a little hi-jacking to get it started off. JJK.
Can't do the black mask and cape..been there done that ...I almost got arrested and I tripped over my cape.
What would be the "average" amount of water used to take shower? gallons?

Glad you liked the shower idea ! Got more "stuff" gone today. Woohoo !! Feels good to get rid of the "baggage".

p.s. Do I need to stay on topic here also?  Cool

I've seen some systems where the copper pipe coil goes around the OUTSIDE of the heating unit. Go to YouTube, type in 'coil pipe water heating unit' and there are some suggestions on the how-to. Most of them seem to go around a stove pipe, but maybe something else could be adapted. Or it's already there.

I have watched a couple of those vids there. I take my idea of when my father and I went hunting in the mountains and it was deep snow. My dad put a water tank on top of the horse trailer (Thats what we were sleeping in). Then he placed the copper coils in a big pot on the campfire and gravity fed the water down to the coils and then we sat in a chair (inside the heated trailer) with shower head. Worked. So maybe a water tank with coils that had water/antifreeze mix could be made with a inlet and outlet on the tank for water. Then just place the tank on a burner. IDk...thinking it out on my head. Thank you !!
